Will my chances be decreased to going to the University of my choice? PLEASE HELP

I'm currently an A2 student studying A2 in Sociology and Psychology and AS Religious Studies and Citizenship. I previously did Business Studies and Accounting at AS but got an E in Business Studies and U in Accounts.

I have no idea why I picked up Religious Studies and I'm thinking of doing Media Studies, in replacement.

I'm planning on applying to Essex, Hull, Leicester, DMU and Aston University to do Business and Management and I don't know if they will decline my offer because I got an E in Business Studies, and also if Media Studies would help me get to any of those Universities.

I'm planning on getting 2 B's at least in my A2 subjects and 2 A's in my AS subjects.

Please, if anyone can help me it will be appreciated!!!

Well you can apply to UCAS-points university which normally asks you for something like "260 points" that your A-levels and usually they don't mind what subjects.

You can also apply to unis that request specific A-level entry. When I applied to Essex, they asked me for BBB in English Literature. Whilst when I applied for English and Linguistics at Nottingham Trent, they requested 260 in UCAS points, one just being in a full A-level in English at a grade C (got accepted by both, rejected both offers tho).

It just depends on what you want. I would stick with RE. I did that (Philo/Ethics), hated every minute of it. But got me into uni and also, it's a much more respectable A-level than Media Studies for sure!

Regarding your previous AS grades, you will have to put those down on UCAS but they aren't concerned with that to be honest. Also that E will count towards UCAS points anyway. They will tend to look just at your predicted grades, rather than your actual grades. I got an A 97/100 in my Philo AS exam and 17/100 for Ethics which was a U. I did say I was retaking my Ethics, but I never disclosed my U grade because I didn't need to. However, your circumstances is quite different so I would advice you to speak to a career/student advisor if you have one at your school/college.

Thank you very much! If I apply for universities that ask for UCAS points and it doesn't say on the university website that they don't require me to study certain subjects at A-Level, do you think they would look down on me for studying Media Studies even if I got an A in it?

They wouldn't look down on you as they don't ask for any specific A-levels. Usually because the degree doesn't require students with any particular skills. For example, you need an English Lit A-level if you want to study English at degree because at A-level, it teaches you the stepping stones for degree level; criticisms, terminology, historical findings, reading for meaning skills etc etc. Whereas, a Criminology degree doesn't require you to have a specific A-level as it's not a "specialist" degree. So you could be accepted with Media Studies, BTEC ICT and English Lit.

For instance, my (distant) friend did A-level English Lit (D) BTEC ICT (Merit) and BTEC PE (Distinction) and still got in to her 1st uni to study Criminology cause of the points she received from her Level 3 qualifications.
