I'm a bit worried about sharing with only 3 other people, I always imagined being more. I'm also worried about the condition of the place (there are a lot of mixed reviews). And even though I like going out, there are so many people saying that the noise is unbearable..

I'm thinking of sending the accommodation people an email asking to change the order of my preferences to put Robertson's close 1st, then Darroch court and lastly Kincaids..

Unless you're in catered accommodation, living on a corridor, sharing with 3 (or I think at most 4) other people is how it's going to be. In fact I thought Kincaids Court was one of the few places where they did have some much larger flats, although that was a few years ago and may have changed now.

As far as I've seen, most self catered places are 4-6 people on average. Three is on the lower side. The largest I've heard is 10.

I have firmed a conditional offer for Veterinary Medicine and I am trying to decide what (self-catered) accommodation to go for and finding it really difficult to figure out what would be best for me.. I have had a look on the website and think Warrender Park Crescent and Warrender Park Road look like they are in such a lovely area, and would also be good for me as the bus journey to the vet school would be quite short. However looking at the photos I am a bit worried about the rooms and kitchens looking really small and there not being a 'common room' sort of area to go to, has anyone stayed at either of the places and found this to be a problem..? I also looked at Mansion Fountainbridge due to it being close but also am a bit hesitant as it isn't just Edinburgh students and I am keen to be in halls with other students, also the area around doesn't look quite so nice? Deaconess also looks great but it is a bit further away from the vet school and a bit more expensive so I would want to make sure it is worth the extra, so if anyone has stayed there it would be great to hear a bit about the area, facilities, rooms etc. Any advice on any of the accommodation would be so welcome, I really want to make sure I have made the right choice!! Thanks

Im going in to Veterinary Medicine too! Im deciding right now and don't know what to pick. I think I am going to pick Sciennes since everyone seems to like it and its not that far from anything. Then maybee east Newington Place and Frasers Croft. Does anyone have any opinions of those places??

Hey there, I'm also going for vet med and got accommodation in Warrender Park Crescent. Have you guys got accommodation yet?
Hi!!
I would like to know if anyone can give me a quick idea about Richmond Place - Churchill accommodation.
I am a light sleeper and I know the flats will be of 10 rooms, although they are ensuites. Do you recommend this accommodation??

Thank you!
For your first year at uni, would you suggest going into student accomodation or a private rent flat?

I would definitely recommend student accommodation. You don't have to worry about paying bills separately from your rent, you don't have to struggle with landlords or letting agencies if you have a problem and you're guaranteed to be living with other students in the same situation as you.

In student accommodation, you can choose between catered and non-catered, and the representatives living in the accommodation will organise events and evenings for you and all of the other first years living there, so there's a lot of chances to socialise and make friends. Some buildings also have study groups organised that you can join.

All in all, staying in student accommodation is definitely a good idea as you are guaranteed accommodation, and you don't have to spend your first year worrying about bills or anything like that, which gives you plenty of time to focus on getting to know the university and having fun. As an added benefit, there's always the option to get relocated to another flat if you don't get on with your flatmates - something that can cause major issues when privately renting.

Thank you so much this helped a lot!

At the bottom of the selection screen for setting your preferences, there's this message (for self-catered housing):
What I'm taking this to mean is: My flat (that is, the people I share 1 bathroom and kitchen with) will be all girls. But the flat next to ours (who have their own bathroom and kitchen) could be all boys.

Is that correct, or should I tick that box? Not that I don't love boys, but it seems easier to share bathroom/kitchen with other girls.

I lived at Kincaids this year, it's ok, but you can get much better ones. The noise will be a problem, even if you like going out, it's not students going out, it's the locals and they are insanely loud. There's about 10 clubs/bars within 100m radius and they all come onto the street after, at about 3am and scream. You get used to it, but when it comes to exams its not nice.
I applied for accommodation a little late. I have emailed accommodation services about when I will receive housing and they just keep saying "within the next few weeks." I have gotten that email twice about 4 weeks apart.

I am coming from the US and need to send my stuff somewhere for when I get there, I just don`t know where I am living yet!

Is anyone else having this problem?

Is your offer unconditional firm?

It's also worth noting that packages that arrive addressed to you before you do will be turned away - so don't send them too early.

Yeah, I have an unconditional firm offer that I accepted in June.

I am just worried about not having enough time to figure out details of where I am staying, before I arrive.

Should I call accommodation services?

Not yet. A Level results day is Thursday next week. If you haven't heard anything by the end of next Monday, consider giving them a ring before all hell breaks loose on the 13th. But you will be offered accommodation, it will be in Edinburgh, and as I said - you can't send stuff to yourself before you actually arrive - so while you might not get as long to plan as you'd hoped, you should have enough time.
do you have any pictures of your room at beaver bank?

Hi there, has anyone checked out the new student accommodation at Elliott House?

I'm an international student, so not very familiar with the city. To me it seems like a good location, close to the Royal Terrace Gardens, and they are running some promotion for August.

I can imagine they have some sort of marketing room, as they are opening this year. Has anyone been to see it?

I walked past a week ago and it was still under construction. Pretty close to being done, so they should make their September date, but definitely not finished. Haven't done anything except look at the outside.

I had such impression as well based on the Google maps street view.

It would be amazing if anyone has been to see the marketing suite and could share their impression here.

So far from what I can see on the website, the rooms are spacious and should be brand new. Also the location cannot be better. The promotion which they are running at the moment is an additional plus, but I would be more confident if I heard from someone who actually made the site visit.

Im a first year postgraduate student. I applied for a studio in Holyrood north but I'm worried because I read too many complaints about university accomodation and Im afraid the building might not be ready by september because it is still under construction. Any one can suggest an alternative to the university accomodation.
