EU extends free movement to non-EU immigrants

The EU's top court has ruled the UK cannot demand non-EU immigrants apply for a visa if they are related or married to an EU citizen, effectively ruling non-EU immigrants have the right to free movement. The ruling 'potentially opens Britain's borders to large numbers of non-Eu nationals'

Absolute madness! the EU is basically saying anyone in the world can come to the UK with no controls and no visa's so long as they have some connection to any EU national!

Great news.

Let the unsustainable government borrowing to carry on to finance it
It's almost as if Germany and France and other EU nations don't have Britain's best interests in mind.

One could almost believe that the same old rule of national self-interest still applies.

Maybe, just maybe the EU isn't some benign brotherhood of national altruism and collective prosperity, but a loose group of selfish countries each trying to get the most they can from it and care not if it pulls down the rest.

But hey maybe un-moderated immigration is a good thing, there's surely no historical examples of such events creating social and economic unrest or anything....

This is nothing new.

If a non-EU citizen has a EU Residence Card then they have the right to move to any EU member state without a visa. This has been the case since 2004.

Besides, the UK already grants permits to EEA family members. I doubt this will ''potentially open Britain's borders to a large numbers of non-Eu nationals''.

Believe it or not but actually the UK has some of the highest non-EU immigration in Europe, we let in far more that could go to x.

With that being said this was obvious, those who come to an EU country become EU citizens, Eu citizens have free movement.

I'm not pleased given that i don't like a lot of non-EU immigration from certain places.

Why, is your wife inflatable?
Diaster.

britain, and most other EU nations have comprehensive welfare states. You can't just import people from the third world in such large numbers and expect the system to carry on as normal.

This is a completely regressive policy.
Well poor you, UK. Im sorry, youre a cool country and youre probably going to get less cool with each passing year if you let in an uncontrolled number of people every year, especially people who are not planning to integrate with the society. Im actually an international whod like to study and hopefully live in the UK so Im kind of talking against myself here but while I donr think UK should have anti immigration policies, I dont think it should invite whomever with open arms either.

No, mine came from a catalogue.

Maybe his did too.

But on a serious note, jut because you marry someone foreign, they should not be given citizenship instantly and become British.

Makes sense your spouse can travel around with you, otherwise it will restrict your movements within the EU if they can't. You don't need to be a British citicen to live in Britain nor do you have to get it when you marry.
