Help with different types of sources

I have one simple question to anyone who understands the nature of sources better than I do. If a secondary source quotes a person from the time you are analysing, e.g. if in this case an archive quotes Malcolm X:

" Malcolm X called it the 'Farce on Washington.' Stokely Carmichael of SNCC said it was 'only a sanitized, middle-class version of the real black movement.'"

Is this a primary or secondary source, in part A of my A level historical enquiry would I be penalised for using this as a primary??
