I'm trying to find out which college to apply for, but I can't make up my mind.. It is so hard, because I am not familiar with any off the colleges and their reputations.. Is there anyone in here who knows them a bit better?

If they accept my grades, I'm studying Law and Politics.

All the colleges are listed here along with what they represent- If you're doing Law and Politics I'd assume that's near where History would be so Bowland would be the closest college http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/study/accommodation/undergraduate-accommodation/choose-your-college/

i like to go out and i would also like to socialise in my flat. so which college usually has the best night life and the most sociable people?
Hi! If I have understood correctly, in the ensuites I have my own badroom and bathroom and I share the kitchen with other students, am I right? But what's the difference between normal ensuites and superior ensuites? Do you think an ensuite is a good choice to make new friends? What if you don't get along with another student? Thank you!

In a superior ensuite the rooms/bathroom generally are nicer because they are newer. Lot's of people have ensuites and have no problems making friends. You would have your own bathroom, so it won't really matter if you don't get along with someone. You only have to share the kitchen.
Just so you know, there's no point choosing accommodation based on your department because your lectures will be scattered all over campus

I got my accommodation email this morning!! I've applied straight away to get it out of the way before my exams

Hi,
I'm a bit late to this thread but im thinking of firming Lancaster this year to do french and german and just wanted to know what you thought of the department and its facilities? Also I've heard most language students choose Bowland or Lonsdale as their college is that true??
Hello Mel_Gold

I'm studying CompSci and Spanish and as kristaylor said, dont pick college based on a department, lectures are all over campus, they sometimes change location on a week by week basis. Pick your accommodation based on what looks the nicest to you. Grizedale is the newest i believe, ive been in a few other peoples accomodation whilst ive been here, infact i think ive been inside all of the colleges and fylde + grizedale / county townhouses are the newest and most modern.

If youre thinking of picking bowland or lonsdale because you want to be near other language students, I'm not sure but i know that every college has a really wide mix and youll soon learn that colleges dont mean too much, theyre just where you live, youll make friends all over campus!

Not saying you should pick Bowland or anything but I know that over 33% of the students in the college are international and it has the most of any of the colleges. Grizedale probably does have the best accommodation, although I'm pretty sure you'll be able to live comfortably no matter where you are.
