I do not know anything about the Met course, but at Leeds education is quite academic and alot of it is based on methods and research. I do not think a university degree in Education is necessarily seen as the way into teaching, as most of the people my dad teaches are career academics and not that interested in the practical stuff. From what I understand teachers tend to have done degrees in traditional subjects and then done teacher training courses.
