Bioveterinary science at RVC or Hartpury?
Hi,
I was hoping someone would be able to help me. I've received offers from both of these courses and I am finding it extremely hard in deciding where to choose.
So if someone could say how they're finding the course, subjects, a typical day timetable etc?

RVC if the course is taught in central London.

Yes it is taught in London but the major negative of this is how expensive it will be to live in London. My original ambition was to go from this course on Veterinary Medicine.

Well you should get first year halls and then you and 3 of your friends can share a 4 bed flat which should be nice and cheap. Underground and bus travel is affordable. I did my undergraduate in London. If you do your research on London and make the most of it then London is the best place to go.

When you do your research and find out small tiny rooms / converted cupboards you can't move in are £300 a month and this amazing penthouse in one of the best areas of London right next to Regent's Park which is full of multi-million pound properties, if you look at pics 11/12 out of 15, those cream houses are the most exclusive and expensive houses in the UK that if being sold wouldn't go on the public market and there is the U.S. ambassador's residence so with students not having to pay council tax, this penthouse will cost you £375 a month! Amazing value. Plus it say's in the description it would be ideal for students so they would expect a group of you to apply to live there.
As I said before, if you do your research for what you can get from going there and decide for London then it is worth it as there is so much to do and learn; art galleries, history, politics, amazing night life (if done properly), the oyster card makes travelling affordable.. so lots of pros.. it just takes a little while to find your feet if you aren't used to city living. Of course there are cons.. such as so busy it's a bit nuts, I remember being in a Z shape, all squashed up on the underground in a carriage. Pollution can be annoying, it's not as enjoyable as the countryside, which you can appreciate more if you have been living in the city, and as you've mentioned the cost but I have brought up all the ways you can save money so it should be affordable and for a growing-up experience, London is the best!
Also, if you are bookworm then RVC as a part of the University of London, you could go to the UofL student union which is on the bloomsbury campus with UCL, SOAS, etc.. at SOAS is a unique experience where everyone is really chilled out and you can get free food at lunchtime from the hare krishna and during the sunnier months everyone chills out on the grass. With UofL you can visit all the libraries as a UofL student and also with a Sconul Card for access.
UofL also has the Royal Academy of Music if you want to see some amazing music being made.. the School of Advanced Study: commonwealth studies, human rights law etc.. this is in Senate House on the bloomsbury campus. The London School of Economics and Political Science is fascinating to go to a few select public lectures to broaden your thought on society and have an amazing library. The Courtauld Institute and gallery are incredible as is the Warburg Institute. The Royal Institute of Philosophy is on the Bloomsbury campus too.
So the University of London offers a lot for the entire 'university' experience in which you can really get involved in so many different aspects, meeting so many people who are aiming for differents parts of society that you can learn from which will make you a smarter and a more intelligent person prepared for a career as a professional.
Covent Garden, Chelsea, Shoreditch (for the hipsters.. the City, Westminster (Whitehall), there is so much fun stuff to do (and burn your money) like trampoline parks and swimming pools. Fashion and make-up is everywhere too. When I was in London I absolutely loved visiting the British Academy, which is next to the Royal Society. Public lectures are free so there is always plenty to do with your free/down time. If you wanted to delve into the world of actual politics in Westminster, you can sit in the public gallery of the house of commons and lords and there is think-tanks who do lectures such as the Institute of Economic Affairs and the Adam Smith Institute, plus signing up to email lists from the political parties can tell you of events.
So plenty to do, lot's to find out about! Anymore about London let me know

I've got an offer for Bioveterinary at Hartpury for September but my mum is really not convinced about me going there even though it would be my first choice at the minute. Are you able to take a sandwich year? Any ideas as to how to convince her seeing as you're studying it?
