How different are they?

You apply to 5 universities/courses and you can only write one personal statement.

5 universities.

Edited, but 6 was better:p:
You could apply for 5 different subjects if you felt like it, but you have to JUSTIFY this both in an interview(if you even got one) and in your personal statement of which you may ony write one, so its probably better to make your mind up.

You wouldn't have to justify in an interview why you have applied to 5 different courses, they wouldn't know where else you have applied.

but you'd have to justify why you should ge ton that course, if you wrote a PS that was to fit 5 different courses and so in some aspects will be weaker than othe rpeoples

Not unless the courses are linked somewhat, and I wasn't disputing the fact you would have to justify why you should get onto that course.

Universities can only tell what courses you have applied for at their place, and whatever they can glean from your PS, which will of course be weaker if you can't back up your desire to do one subject.
I applied for two courses at CU, but they were very similar (Accountancy and Accounting&Finance). They won't mind if you do this, but choosing, say, Law and Art might suggest someone who isn't committed to their subject.
How similar are the 2 courses? If they're quite different, it will be difficult to write a personal statement that makes you sound committed enough. It shouldn't be a problem if they're similar though.
