Access student who wants to go into Ucas Extra.

I'm an Access law student and I want to get into a better uni than what I have on my options. I accepted my firm and insurance (Middlesex and Westminster) however I won't be getting the grades for middlesex and I don't want to go westminster.

I currently have 3 passes, 33 merits and 9 distinctions.

I want to go to Exeter who ask for 12 distinctions, 21 merits and the rest at passes but I don't know if they'll be leniant on my application.

Or Essex who ask for 45 Merits.

Whats the best choice, go into ucas extra and apply individually, wait till clearing or transfer in my second year to a better uni that'll accept me??
Maybe contact the Universities direct and check whether there are any spaces and whether your application might be within their criteria.
You would then need to withdraw from your current offers, which would then allow you to use xtra.
I would try informkal chat with the Unis and then go via extra if it was positive.
