How is Paper 1 marked?

Hi,

As Paper 1 is the practical paper and as everyone programs differently, how does the examiner know when to give marks? Are ALL the marks automatically awarded by default if the amended code does what the question asks?

i.e. my solution may be less efficient than the mark scheme, or doesn't have a loop but does output the correct testing data as stipulated by the question?

Just a bit worried as I'm not the most efficient programmer
