The Student Room Group

University of Leicester or Hull

Hi, I'm planning on studying either BSc or BA geography and have scrapped my insurance to go into clearing. What uni out of Leicester and Hull would be the best for studying geography? The student satisfaction for BA Geography at Leicester seems quite low while I've heard the University of Hull specialises very well in geography. Although the University of Leicester is more noteworthy.

Thanks!

Look at the different components of the course and take a look at the Leicester and Hull forums on here to see what current students say about it.

Hi,

I might be slightly biased, but I would recommend the University of Leicester!

Here are five reasons we think Geography at Leicester is great:

1) We offer a range of once-in-a-lifetime field trip opportunities: you could visit the Amazon Rainforest or the Mojave Desert to name a few awesome places

2) All field classes in your first and second years are completely paid for by the University at no extra cost to you

3) Leicester is internationally renowned for our work on Geographical Information Science (GISc). Our state-of-the-art GISc facilities include a 3D virtual reality theatre for data visualisation

4) You will have access to our specialised laboratories, which include an Environmental Stable Isotope Lab for organic compound analyses, a Geochronoogy Lab, a Palaeoecology Lab for the study of micro-fossils, a Microscope Lab and a Geomorphological Hardware Modelling Lab with a rainfall simulator and flume

5) GeogSoc, our student-run departmental society, is one of only two student societies in the UK affiliated to the European Geography Association (EGEA) and one of the largest and most active on campus

We hope this extra information helps! Please let us know if you have any further questions, or visit our website for more information about the course:

Good luck making your decision.
