Any "Mature" (yuk @ that term!) Students Here?!

Hi all, I'm glad I've finally found a Reading Uni message board!

I'm 31 and will be starting at Reading in a couple of weeks.

My biggest regret is that I should have done it when I was young.... I'm so envious of all you staying in halls, etc and partying your nights away :frown:

Any more old fogies like me out there? Or are we too old to be playing on message boards?!

As you can tell I'm kinda nervous at being one of the older students, hoping I'll fit in with you all. It would appear that most of the students on my course are straight from college from what I've seen at open days, etc.

So that's a hello from me....see you all soon

Hi, I'm going straight from college to uni this year, but i found a website that has satistics etc etc on different universities. Apparently reading has

40% Post Grads - 60% Undergrads, that means there will be people older than say....21 there, some will definately be 24 (PhDs) and it wouldn't surprise me at all if there were people your age or over!

So don't fret, there will be people your age or there abouts, and if not, I'll hang out with you anytime!

I guess I'm making some daft assumptions aren't I! Not all 18 year olds act like my baby brother (who is now 24 and still acts like he's 12 - bless!)

I so don't feel like my age. I feel like a University student! I'm also desperate to do the clubbing/party/socialising thing, but with 3 kids and a husband that works abroad all the time, its just not going to happen!

Here's hoping you lot keep me feeling young!

Hey there!

Well, you're definately not alone. I am 27, and will be doing a degree in Investments and Banking at the ISMA centre, at the University of Reading!

I'm actually really looking forward to it! Thankfully, I don't have any other responsibilities - no wife, kids, dogs or other living things to attend to!

I wouldn't worry if I were you. Everyone, 18 or 81, is worried during the first few days. And everyone will be looking to make new friends, I assure you! So just mingle with the rest of the crowd, say lots of "hello's!" to the people looking lost next to you, and have a fabulous time!!

Thanks Loukas, that was a great article. Maybe we could photocopy it and distribute it widely amongst the "youngens".

I personally am feeling much better about the whole thing now and just can't wait to get going!

Didn't you go clubbing when you were 18-24?
Reply 11
What's that got to do with anything? People over the age of 24 have been known to go to a club ...
I'm another 'oldie but a goodie', will be reading English at Sussex in just over a week. Personally, I feel that a little life experience never hurt anybody
Good luck at Reading I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time.
Miriam.

I'm sorry ~ I may be over 30, but I'm not dead yet!

Is there an age limit on having fun then? I wasn't aware of that!....

I'll go and sit and knit quietly in the corner now!
