Forth Valley Hospital for FY

Hi,

I'm considering applying to Scotland West for FY, and was wondering whether anyone had experience working in Forth Valley Hospital?

What is it like to work there? Are the staff supportive? Do most people live in Falkirk/Glasgow/Edinburgh? Is there hospital accommodation available?

I'm a student and jve been in placement in Forth Valley.

It's a pretty modern hospital in Larbert. People commute from all-over - Stirling and Falkirk are the two biggest towns in the region, but it's doable from either Edinburgh or Glasgow too.

In terms of working there, pretty standard DGH - not really any big trials/research happening but still reasonably specialist in services provided.

I did my nurse training there. I know most people who work there would agree that it really depends on the ward you are on. Some are good, some are poor. You are very much at the mercy of the ward sister as to whether the ward is good or not. Generally as long as you take the time to get to know the staff, they should help you out.

Lots of the doctors commute from Glasgow, but it can be hard going. It's much more pleasant to commute from Falkirk or Stirling (although this really depends whether you rely on public transport or not). The vast majority of the nursing and support staff live locally in either Falkirk or Stirling. There is no hospital accommodation but lots of lovely AirB&B offerings in the area which will do longer term lets for a reasonable price. There is very little in the way of 1 bed flats, and most of the shared flats are with students.

I'm going to start working in Fort Valley Hosp next week. Any idea what is the best way to surch for a room close to the hospital?
