I've got something here about a study performed by Craik and Tulving in 1975, in which participants were given 21 questions, each of which focused on a particular word in the question that had to be remembered and recalled later.. The questions themselves were designed to be either semantic, rhyming or structural. They found that the semantic words were remembered the most.

This supported Craik and Lockharts "Model of Memory" as it shows that when information is processed more deeply, as it was with the semantic questions, it is more likely to be stored in LTM as opposed to forgotten. The model also goes on to say that memory is a by-product of information processing.

Thats all the info my book has, im afraid.. Try googling Craik and Tulving and see what you find on the net.
