If they've asked for 580, you really should be aiming for that -- if they've specifically offered you higher than the typical offer for your course, then you probably need to achieve it.

Otherwise, uni's vary massively - often between departments - in their response to narrowly missed offers. I know some who will accept students missing out by two whole grades (ABC instead of AAB), and others who reject candidates just missing out (3 marks off an A grade at A2 :eek:).

Normally you have to meet the conditions of a conditional offer. Whether they choose to be flexible or not is entirely down to them.
