post university volunteering abroad

i have just finished the first 3 years of an architecture degree and am currently working full time before going back to university for a diploma course.

Im considering taking an extra year out from studies to work and volunteer and am wondering if anyone has any advice on volunteering abroad?

i have looked at various websites offering a 'gap year' volunteer abroad experience, such as bunac, the leap, and projects abroad, but I'm worried that they might be a bit expensive for what they are and aimed at school leavers?

If anyone has any advice and reccomendations for organisations to go with I would be really grateful.
I know what you mean, I looked at the same and don't see why you have to pay £2,500 to build huts in Africa when in reality the money goes to the company and not the local community.

Where do you want to volunteer? Continent?

I have so many tips, pm me for advice, I got these websites off the lonely planet:

Volunteer South America - http://www.volunteersouthamerica.net
Gap Year Volunteer - http://www.gapyearworldwide.com/Volunteer.htm
Idealist - http://www.idealist.org
Ecoteer - http://www.ecoteer.com

Hope that helps, get in touch if you need any help.
I just replied but I'm not sure you are allowed to post links as my thread has gone??

PM me for some useful websites
