Biology anyone?

Also, I'm not going to be living in halls (i live close to exeter with my boyfriend and it's tons cheaper than halls would be to drive in everyday :/) am I going to be missing out on uni life a lot? :frown:

I can't say I know many people who live outside of the campus accommodation - bar one. She is a bit of a nutcase though and I wouldn't go on her experiences as being the norm! However, you will meet people on your course and through societies, and to be honest, most of the decent socialising is done either on nights out or through societies. Yes, some people make great friends through halls, but some don't, and while you won't have the whole living-with-people thing going on in 2nd and 3rd year, I have been told A NUMBER OF TIMES that the people you live with are rarely going to be your best friends.

Sooo, don't worry about it too much, but make sure you make the most of societies and that, because the best people will be there I think!

Good luck!

No worries! After a year here I know how good it really is, and considering how I felt at the start of the year, that's a massive improvement - I just want people to feel the same really

Happy to answer any other queries though
If all goes well, I will be coming to Exeter! I'm a study abroad student from the US so I'm just waiting to get my visa approved. I'll be coming for English and I'll be living in Lafrowda Block E! Wooo!
Just got my Accommodation offer. Lafrowda block Q! EXCITEMENT.
Lafrowda Penwith anyone?
Got my offer from Lafrowda! How do you check which block you're in?

And, does anyone know if there are any restrictions on when you may enter/exit the halls? Can you come home at 2am without a problem (not that I will)?

The offer letter should tell you which block... if not, just email the accommodation department with your student number/name and they'll get back to you. If you ask a bit nearer the time they might be able to tell you what your room number is as well.

Let me know.

Kind regards.

So own up - who's coming to the wonderful place that is Exeter? What subject are you doing? Tell us!
I'm not going to stalk you...
:woo:

I live near Exeter... If that counts. If I get an apprenticeship near there then I may go to Exeter College...
Got my results today so providing there is no funny business between now and the confirmation on UCAS, I can definitely say I will be starting Philosophy with Political Economy at Exeter October 2011

I really need to do my accommodation so I can get it out of the way before the proper start of my exams. I was first considering self-catered but seeing as so many of exeter uni students actually go catered and apparently the food is quite good I was then very looking forward to putting catered as my three choices. However, I am just worried about Holland Hall.... I want to go ensuite so I'm going to put Pennsylvannia Court, Birks Grange and then Holland... I've heard really bad things on the student forum that it's so snobbish and if you don't play rugby or an extremely sporty person you shouldn't be there. I'm relatively sporty, tennis and swimming really, but not one of those 'rugby boys'. I'm just worried about that. Or am I just getting worried about nothing? Also, when you book for accommodation for Pennsylvannia Court, can you actually say you want Pennsylvannia Court or do you just have to put exeter halls accommodation ensuite?

Im now a 3rd year law student at this uni and I'l tell you what you need to know on accomodation. I spent term 1 of first year in Birks Grange and Term 2 in Holland hall. Birks Grange is really nice, very sociable but a killer ot walk to campus as you have to climb this hill- it's called "cardiac hill". Holland hall is by far the nicest accomodaiton on campus- great views, rooms are nice, except they have wetrooms, not proper showers like in Birks. However, it is very unsociable, at dinner you typically find tables of people with no friends. And yes, they are all snobbish and play rugby, some take their form holland hall to lectures to avoid walking 5 minutes. Personally if I were you, I'd go for Birks Grange. Hope that helps!
I'm coming to Exeter in September and going to be in James Owen Court!

I've never heard of restrictions on coming in - as far a I am aware you can come in at anytime that you want.

Lights out by 10:30pm, other than Sundays. You must be in bed by 9pm on the Sabbath. Also, no music or fornication.

well, i see a lot of law students..n various other subjects..
i have an unconditional offer from exeter n i will take it and run;-)

i will be doing BSc. Business n management

but i think i'll prefer staying outside the campus, as it gives you a chance to atleast get out.
i don't know it that's the right choice, even financially

Personally, I think it'd be more beneficial to stay on campus. Far better for forming friendships and tbh, I think the financial advantage of being off-campus is negligible. It's about 80p/w plus bills. Laffy is probably comparable. But then again, depends how you are financially and how much you care about a social life.
