Maths at York

Hi everyone, I'm joining York in September to study maths:smile: Just wondering if we get a formula sheet in exams (integral tables and the like)? How many people get 90%+ in exams? Thanks in advance:smile:

Hey! Congrats on getting into York!

I'm a current 3rd year student in Maths at York. Most exams do not have or need formula sheets, all you'll be expected to remember are the important formulas for that module and obvious stuff from previous years (Like how to integrate by parts). However some lecturers may choose to give you formulas you need either at the start of the paper or in the question that you need them.

I would warn you that 90+% is generally not expected of students at university. The grade boundaries for Maths are :
First-class Distinction: 85 - 100 (although this is slightly lower for some combined programs and changes in each department)
First-class Honours: 70 -100
Upper second-class Honours: 60-69
Lower second-class Honours: 50-59
Third-class Honours: 40-49
Fail: 0-39

To give you an example, about 25% of second years will get above a first in each exam.

Hope this helps 😊
