Why do people constantly hate people with degrees ?

Constantly people go on about how "they didn't go to university but the people who work for them did" etc . like they have a sour chip on their shoulders and are trying to prove something..

Is it because they couldn't compete on the playing field where success could be quantitatively measured and are trying to make up for it now ?

agree in a sense, easy to stop with "you can be successful whether you go to uni or not" without ******** on one option or another. uni is the right thing for some people and not for others

Degrees mean nothing unless you are training to become a surgeon or something specific like that. Kiera Knightley does not have a degree, yet she lives in a massive house which she owns while degree holders are renting a small flat with other people
I think it depends on the type of career you to pursue, and it’s subjective. It benefits some people and not others.
people can be successful whether they went to university or not. i don’t think anyone should judge someone else on whether they hold a degree or not.

university isn’t for everyone but is definitely the right thing for others.

we are all different and are bound to go through life differently. you can be proud of yourself without bringing someone else down, and i feel like people forget that sometimes!
People who didnt go to uni and are millionaires- Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Cheryl Cole and countless others.
Unis are a scam which are designed to make the owners of uni rich and to leave you broke!

How do you become a doctor or a lawyer without a degree then?

Most actors or actresses end up sharing flats when they start out much like most people.

of course i did say in my earlier post that a degree is needed for specialist fields such as medicine and being a lawyer but otherwise a degree is a waste of time designed to make uni owners richer!

Just call yourself Dr or start taking some clients, nobody said you had qualified to do a job :h:

So a degree is just a means to a big house, rather than an opportunity to enter a career that you are actually passionate about? Many choose degrees that aren't suited to them, or when they don't actually need to do one, true. But that doesn't discredit academia as a concept.

There is the apprenticeship route to become a lawyer

Maybe I was wrong about becoming a lawyer (though the minimum requirements seem a little hefty)

What you quoted can come from a place of insecurity sometimes. I went to a Pitman Training centre years ago and had a long talk with the centre manager there. She wasn't born in the UK and she said her parents sent her here and spent X amount of money on a business degree for nothing essentially. She said she sees people going through the Centre to learn SAGE and other skills that their relevant degrees did not teach them but should have. She said it's the high-theory content in lieu of actual skills in a lot of degrees that can make some graduates going into work fish out of water, so I can see where this attitude you mentioned comes from. Any education needs to be applied to real life situations in conjunction with technical skills and soft skills in order for it to be of any benefit IMHO. I have loved studying and don't think it should be sniffed at.

I started a degree years ago that came with a placement. I chose to leave the degree and pursue something else but I developed so many skills from the theory and placement that course offered. I took those skills into the workplace (in an unrelated field) and during audits I got high scores which I attribute to the skills I applied from that degree that some people thought was a 'waste' because I didn't complete it.

Some of the most book smart and/or emotionally intelligent people I have ever met don't have a degree. I've heard of people being quite bitter that a graduate got a job instead of them.

It does bother me quite a bit when people say uni was/is a waste of time if you're not training to be a nurse/OT/physio/doctor, etc. It's damn expensive, yes, but during that time a lot of people learn to live independently where they otherwise might not have, make friends (some friends for life), learn some stuff (or a lot of stuff) and are supposed to learn to think critically. Soft skills are underrated.

TL;DR I see both sides, basically. Uni is suitable for some and not for others, bitterness is not nice and what we learn needs to be applied with soft skills.

Lmao you can't just pick a one in a million actress and act like they are representative of the population. The average salary of uni grads is about 1.4x greater than those without university degrees. Especially in stem, then you're talking triple that , assuming they can even get a job without a degree in the first place.

The problem is our parents were selfish in deciding to give birth to us, they have given employers the privilege of picking and choosing who to hire for lame jobs and graduates are forced to fight like dogs over entry level positions and internships (slave labour). There are countless others who live in a mansion and they did not go to uni- one direction, take that, william roache, phil collins, bill gates....

Those are cases of successful entrepreneurs and careers in music or acting. The world of careers is not easy - it is hard to get a job as we are in a giant recession. Uni benefits people who want certain careers and as pointed out is not for everyone.

bahahahah
Many people just have personalities that are prone to envy, spite or snobbery/inverse snobbery.

There are also some people who do not value education, are deeply hostile to intellectualism and have utter contempt for the intelligentsia.
Plenty of people with genuine concerns at the promotion of unis instead of apprenticeships, the social emphasis upon undergrad qualifications being perceived as the best option for almost every student within the UK and the consequences of the current unsustainable student loans system.

it is safer not to give birth under any circumstance, most men expect the woman to contribute to the household after giving birth to their child! The audacity is astounding!
