Is university of hertfordshire safe??

I'm really interested in going to this school, but my family (since I'm from the US) is worried about safety because of how risky London is and how far it is, so I need opinions from current students if possible, so I can convince my family that it's safe for me to go. Obviously you need to take precaution no matter where you go, but I need to reassure my family that I'll be okay if I go. Is the university itself safe? what about the area? please feel free to provide links.
Yes it’s definitely safe. Just need to take normal, but necessary precautions as you would anywhere

Much safer than London, by miles. I’m a student at Hertfordshire.

What is your definition of "risky", sure its a major capital city of about 8 million people and has its rough spots, but its safer than pretty much every large US city. Minor crims simply dont have access to guns in the UK, and much of the really serious stuff that does happen is one gang going after another, that mostly misses the "ordinary" population, numerical detail at the links below.

Risky as in any sort of danger. I tried to tell them that New York is 2 times more dangerous than London but they think it's a lie not sure why because like the article you showed me and some sources are saying the same thing. Every country has rough spots, so it's a little frustrating trying to convince parents along with them not wanting me to leave.

Hi, I was still editing . Numbers at the links above. What are you interested in studying BTW, Hertfordshire is a pretty long way down the rankings TBH, if you want a "safer" small city university, then there are other places to look at if you have the grades, Bath for example.

Is Hertfordshire uni even in London my impression was it was further out then Watford, I suspect you’ll be in quite a quiet town & on a practical basis isn’t really in London.

I wouldn’t count it as a London uni, its about a 1 hour drive North up the M1 from where I consider London "ends", I did a bit of consultancy work there once, nice enough campus but a bit "out in the sticks" if you like city life.

Ok, a bit more detail, crime rates for assorted UK university towns and cities below, unfortunatly it doesnt include London or Hertfordshire, but something to get you started on mapping out potential "safe" zones .

Ah, more data that does includes Hertfordshire and assorted London institutions.

It's in Hatfield, so outside the M25.

It’s not in London. It’s in Hatfield. Idk much about Hatfield in general as a place, but I’ve been to campus a few times and it seems nice and I can’t imagine it being unsafe (the campus isn’t right in the town). I’m not sure about the town, but honestly, if you wanted to go somewhere else for your social life, you wouldn’t be restricted to just Hatfield anyway.

Ok, far enough outside my field that I can't give much useful advice there I am afraid. Best of luck.

Much safer than London and infinitely safer than America..
Hertfordshire is full of rich commuter villages/towns its not exactly a hole full of gang violence. Of course you should still be careful, as with any place, but as far as safe unis go this one is pretty good,

The University is holding an online open day for the individual subjects this weekend. Perhaps you could sign up, if the timing works for you?

By the way, you should consider applying now if you wish to start this autumn.
