Music Career

Well I guess I've got the rock'n'roll cliche within me, i would love to make a living as a drummer (albeit a bad one). This would be doing a mixture of bandwork (if poss), session work and teaching (at schools).

I've been playing for around 9 years, have my grade 8, been in many bands.
Anyway I realised university was the sensible thing to do before attempting this, so I'm in my first year at Oxford Uni reading Politics, Philosophy and Economics.

After this three year course I'm considering doing a Higher Diploma (a 2 yr degree seemed worthless in the face of the Oxford Degree).
Is this the right path. Do you think that the diploma is a necessity?

My last few questions:

1) would being out of the loop for a year after Oxford doing the diploma likely damage my standings for a "proper" job (In business or whatnot, considering the degree).

2) Which music school is the best
i) Brighton Institute of Modern Music
ii) Rock-Tech (London)
iii) Academy of Contemporary Music

Anything else ...

Cheers

Tom

Not really. Loads of students here take a gap year, go travelling, do temping work etc for a year or two after graduating before landing a "proper" job.
