April Fool's Day in Kingston - Easy Prank Ideas For You and Your Flatmates!

April Fool's Day is always a fantastic holiday for the more mischievous students amongst us: it's the single best opportunity to play tricks on your friends and flatmates and still face very few consequences! In that same spirit, I thought it would be a good idea to compile a list of some of my all time favourite pranks that I've used recently - because although April Fool's Day is nearly over, it's important to remember you can set these up at any time; in fact, they're even more effective when your friends aren't necessarily expecting them!

1. If any of your flatmates have a rug - or alternatively, if there's a bath/shower mat in your shared bathroom - why not slip some bubble wrap under it and give your poor mates an unsuspecting shock the next time they step on it? If you want to take it a bit further, try unscrewing the lids of any of your flatmates' shampoo, conditioner or shower gel in the bathroom and place a small bit of cling film under the lid. When they try to squeeze anything out, they 'mysteriously' won't be able to!

2. Have a flatmate who isn't too fond of spiders? Scatter a few fake spiders around the flat - some in the fridge (you could even place one in the butter or hide it in a loaf), maybe a couple in a corner of the kitchen - and wait patiently for their reaction. Kingston has a number of party/fancy dress shops where you should be able to pick some bits and pieces up cheaply - try Krish Uk, near Penrhyn Road, or Partica on Fife Road.

3. Whilst changing the clocks is an old, simple trick, it's not too effective nowadays when everyone relies on their phone for the time! Instead, try asking your flatmate to show you something on their phone - a news article, or maybe some photos from a recent party - and when they're not looking, set a couple of alarms to go off when they're usually asleep. They'll definitely be confused the next morning!

4. If you don't have a great deal of time to plan anything too elaborate, why not stick with a classic? Swapping the sugar with the salt (or vice versa) is an easy prank and always makes for a weird cup of tea or coffee!

5. Some people don't necessarily like pranks that scare others - and that's okay! If you're looking for a fun, harmless prank, why not follow in Waymond Wang's footsteps in the Oscar-winning film, 'Everything, Everywhere, All at Once' and place googly eyes on random objects around the flat? Whether it's the kettle, the cupboards or even the bedroom doors, it'll get a good laugh from your mates without causing too much of a disturbance! What are your top pranks for your flatmates/friends on April Fool's? Have you ever planned anything really complicated?
