How do I get into consulting?

Hi all, I had an offer for data management consulting at Kubrick but it is likely to be pulled. I was wondering how I could now plan to get into consulting. I graduated in 2022 so worried about timings for schemes etc. which boutiques are worth applying for?
Your degree is relevant for 2 years post graduation, so you're still in a good position to look for new roles. What type of consulting are you interested in? Management? Tech?

I am undecided; tech obviously fascinates me but most types of consulting appeals to me. Long term, I am not sure of what sector I would like to focus on. What would you advise I do for the next year while I apply for this cycle

Ah no problem, you wouldn't need to choose or specialise in a sector for a few years anyway. What a shame that your Kubrick offer was pulled! If you don't mind sharing, why did they do that? I feel for you and for all the other grads that have had that opportunity taken from them.

You already got an offer from Kubrick, so I'm sure you already have a good idea of how to apply and succeed in your applications. The only advice that I would consider specific to consulting applications:

- Practise case studies! You can find graduate consulting case studies examples and answers online. Not all companies use them, but it's great practise to get your brain geared into problem-solving mode and being solution orientated
- Tailor your CV and Cover Letter to link your experiences to consulting skills/the job description. For example, instead of saying you worked at Tesco for a year stacking shelves, put some details about how you solved customer enquiries, and successfully worked with your team to achieve xxy
- Be prepared for questions like why consulting? (Research how to answer this online)

It has great info on consulting applications!

And there are still consulting graduate scheme places available btw! I've seen some consultancies that still have their application deadlines in late June/July. I just saw these:

Even some of the big names and the big 4 are still hiring in certain locations. So I think you should definitely try to get some applications in this cycle. Even if you aren't 100% interested in the opportunity or you don't get an offer, it's still great practise for if you start again in September/October. Good luck!

I see thank you so much for your help! Essentially they have over-hired, and many people are on the bench, so they have continually delayed start dates or cancelled on grads due to the economic climate. I would recommend a read of their recent glass door reviews, it is awful what has been happening. Annoying as I would instead have been rejected months ago than be in this current situation. Currently, I am working in recruitment but I cannot wait to get out of it. I shall apply to those- many thanks for sending those through!

what a shame! This isn’t the first consultancy I’ve heard of this year that’s moved grad start dates because of the current economic climate!

And working in recruitment is needlessly draining 😩 I really hope you get a new offer soon! Good luck!

How come it's going to be pulled, is that from your side or theirs?

It’s not been pulled but has been postponed indefinitely basically. Mainly due to demand issues and the fact they over hired
