Music Production Universities in Manchester

Hiiii,

Anyone have any experience of studying music production at the following? I have a friend studying in their first year at dbs institute and they love it.

Just want to know other options of bimm, spirit and salford. Seeing lots of posts about bimm being awful.

Salford has a brilliant rep up and down the country for music, and it has done for many many years. Great facilities, and especially for something like music production. Plus there is the significant bonus of it having affiliations with Media City and the BBC so if you are looking into music production then that is an absolute in-route for you. That truly is what Salford has on its side. Plus the grounds of the uni are wonderful with the greenery (side note, but oh well)

Hey @musicproduction!

Great to hear you're looking into studying music in Manchester (not to be biased, but it is the best city going ) - I think it all depends what you're wanting to get out of it as to which university is the best option for you. We have a few different courses for music, which can allow you to specialise into a particular area of interest from the start of the course (have linked these options below!). We're also dead practical as a university - we've got loads of recording and dubbing studios you can make the most of, as well as larger performance spaces if you're wanting to work in a slightly different way. We also have lots of facilities at our MediaCity campus like our Foley studio that you can make the most of - one of my ambassadors who graduated last year was massively into making video game music, so spent a lot of time working with our current game design students to create collaborative pieces that had him working in there fairly often. Its quite common with our arts courses students that you'll work together on projects - you might work with a film student to provide music for one of their pieces, which is a great thing to add to your portfolio. You might also want to get involved with our radio show and have pieces you create run on there - there are loads of options.

If you're wanting to get a feel of universities definitely go to Open Days too - if you're not applying for this September, we've got Open Days in October and November coming up!

BA (Hons) Creative Music Technology
BA (Hons) Popular Music and Recording
BA (Hons) Music Management and Creative Enterprise

Hope that helps! All the best with making your decisions
All the best,
Becky
