Missing lots coursework through injury

Yes,I know long time ago but none of my family,two who were teachers,no teacher at school gave me any advice or said take a year out or wait till heal and perhaps go back a year and take Highers I was taking five highers in a very competitive year group.
At start of term I had misfortune bone growth at side of knee very fast not gradual,that needed immediate op,as I could not walk.Op removes growth but I I was faced with three terms of only two days at school each week as intensive physio to build back up faded thigh and other muscles.
Five highers hard enough but now I would miss 60 percent of classtime.Terrible position and no one to ask about taking a year out,and no home tuition support.Impossible situation and I think I took a serious mental breakdown.with added stress.I did get two highers and had to repeat two subjects in sixth year.Why did noone help or even give advice even hospital should have realised awful predicament
