academic papers in PS

hi,

I was wondering whether its good to mention some academic papers that youve read on a personal statement. And if yes, is it okay to refer to somewhat old papers like from the 1930s?

Thanks!
It’s fine to mention academic papers but it is a bit odd to refer to papers from nearly 100 years ago. I don’t think that’s going to be particularly relevant to your PS
I would note the caveat that in some areas it may be relevant to discuss/read older papers (philological fields for example) but you'd still probably be best off looking at current research which invariably draws on those anyway for the purpose of a PS.

Probably better to look at current scientific journals, and reflect on how they inspired you, as the field is continually progressing.
