Accounting Graduate Scheme Preparation

Hello,

I have just graduated from De Montfort University with a 2:1 in Mathematics. I am now looking at my next steps in my career when i gained interest of accounting graduate schemes. I have never been on any finance/accounting courses during my education my A-Levels being Maths, Physics and Computer Science (BBC).

However, I have read up that a Maths degree will be more than sufficient for such graduate schemes.

I will be looking to take a gap year before I apply to any graduate schemes while I can save money and be fully prepared. Would it be worth preparing with some online courses about accounting from websites such as Edx to gain knowledge? Are these courses even recognised my employers? What other ways could one prepare during a gap year to be ready for potential grad scheme applications?

Any general advice on what to do next career wise would be greatly appreciated.

Jake
