Does the exam board have to stay within the specification?

Hi, for GCSE Edexcel biology on the specification it says: Describe how specialised cells are adapted to their function,

including: a sperm cells acrosome, haploid nucleus, mitochondria and tail b egg cells nutrients in the cytoplasm, haploid nucleus and changes in the cell membrane after fertilisation c ciliated epithelial cells

Now, does this mean I will never get asked a question on specialised cells if it is not a sperm cell, egg cell or a cilliated epitelial cell. I ask because I there is content on the adaptations of red blood cells and others that are not in the specification. Should I revise for specialised cells outside the specification or should I be relieved knowing I will only be asked questions on what the specification says.

I’m sure someone who knows the spec and exam Qs well will give you a better answer, but generally if you’re in doubt, it will give you peace of mind to revise it all even if it’s not explicitly mentioned in the specification. Exam boards are known to throw some questions outside of the spec too and you could get lucky if you know it. When I’ve had this problem before I’ve always revised what’s on the spec more but half-heartedly learnt the other stuff i’m not sure about.
