Is Direct Entry to Year 2 in The University of Edinburgh a Good Idea?

Hi, I have been offered a place for direct entry in the UoE for Biological Science, will direct year 2 be difficult to make friends? Since most of people already knew each other. Will direct year 2 be different to cope with studying? Since courses are the extension of year 1 courses.
I would love to have a smoother transition to the uni life, and I would like develop my essay writing skill. Do year 1 have more tutorial for essay writing skills?

I can't speak for that course but I would say in general if you have the option to start from first year and can afford to, I would do that - adapting to uni is very tough not just from academics but also in a personal way. Why not give yourself the extra time to get to grips with your course before your grades start counting?
