Tests and insanities of a Psychology student

Hello there! :hi:

I'm Scotland Yard, first year Psychology student at Queen Mary University of London. Why am I studying Psychology? Because I'm crazy, that's why

Thought I'd start a revision blog and an account of my year at uni. My goal at uni is to do as best as I can academically, and to have lots of fun along the way

Good luck @Scotland Yard! :yep:

Thank you :grouphugs:
It's the big move-in day today! I'm very excited but nervous. But it'll be OK. As the saying goes, ladies and gentlemen, take my advice: pull down your pants and slide on the ice! Basically, have fun even in hard situations. Words to live by

My bags are packed now and will be on my way soon. I have with me a few tidbits from home to make my new home, well, home. I'm going on a little walk to my local tube station and back to say goodbye to this corner of London and then I'll be on my way.

Yes, it's going swimmingly so far!

My dad helped me move in, he left shortly afterwards to let me decorate my room, put up some posters and photos and that made it feel like my space, you know? My flatmates are nice, talked with all except for one, who we haven't really seen - we call him the ghost  We have also taken to waving to people from the kitchen window, they waive back and invite us to their flats, which is nice and an unexpectedly funny way to meet people!

Been a bit busy meeting people and going to events. I've been roped into going to many parties by the neighbouring flat. They're a laugh and really enjoyable people!

Met a couple of Psychology people through some induction activities yesterday, which was nice, but there haven't been that many opportunities yet. There will be some today so I hope to meet some today! But first I have to do my first shopping on my own

There's always that one flatmate who seems to be a ghost—never seen around.

Excellent. You sound like you are settling in well.

I find it beneficial to plan out my meals for the week and then shop for what I need. It helps me avoid getting stuff I won't end up eating.

It sounds like you have a pretty full social life already! I swear all halls have one mysterious student in them who nobody sees for the first few weeks. In ours it was a guy called Dan who I accidentally called Dom for the first twelve weeks :colondollar: He never corrected me! And that's definitely a unique way to make friends - I feel like it only really works in student halls!

Good you've started to meet people from your course - when do classes start for you?

PRSOM

I torture myself by regularly thinking about all the embarrassing things I've ever done and I just keep replaying this other guy Ryan spinning around in the kitchen and being like, "DAN?! Don't you mean DOM?!"

That sounds like a brilliant idea, you know? I went to the supermarket this morning with no clear idea of what I wanted to buy... I'm not adulting properly, it seems :colondollar:

LOL :giggle:

To be fair, I'm only very sociable because classes haven't started yet, they start next week, so there's very little to do until then - and I won't be going to parties and clubs on weekdays anymore when teaching starts! But I also feel like I'm not socialising as much as other people, you see a lot of groups of friends already and I haven't found that yet (I've just gotten along with a number of people individually), although I hope to remedy that in the coming days. There is a social event for Psychology students tomorrow so I hope to be able to find... "my crowd", if you will, there, plus I'll be joining clubs - particularly looking forwards the music club, I've been told there is a considerable part of the club dedicated to rock music which, well, rocks! :thrasher:

Clubs and subject-specific socials are great ways to make new friends. Tbf as well, you don't have to always slot into a big group - sometimes it's nice to be more of a social butterfly and have friends from different groups  Music Club sounds ace! Do you play an instrument then?

Yes, I play the guitar!

Went to a fair of clubs today, joined Music, Debating, and First Aid. There are other clubs I want/might join but I don't want to have too many commitments and get distracted from studying once it starts next week! So we'll see what happens and what I can manage! Currently on my flat, having a looksy at the online learning environment and all the things that have started to pop up

Oh cool! Joining music club will definitely be a good way of making sure you keep up with guitar alongside studying. I love the variety of your club choices - you're bound to meet such a varied bunch of people, as well.

Good luck with classes starting next week! Which modules are you doing this semester?
