Need Help with Uni Choices - Eng lit, linguistics, TEFOL

Hi. I'm currently doing an Access Course with the end goal being to move on to University in 2024.
The degrees I've been looking at are oriented more towards Eng Lit, Linguistics and TESOL.
University-wise, both the York ones are on shortlist and I'm looking at the ones in Lincoln (I live there).
My question is: are there any Universities (within the UK) that people would recommend in terms of the degrees I mentioned above? I'm just wanting ideas so that I have a range of options and don't overlook any potentially really good choices for what I want to do.

Have visited Swansea, York, Lancaster, Manchester and Newcastle for Linguistics.

Swansea - takes forever to get there, practically on the beach, very caring atmosphere, strong emphasis on TESOL

York - felt a bit disorganised, v. expensive accommodation

Lancaster - very impressed by department, nice self contained campus but isolated situation and noisy from motorway

Manchester - very impressed by subject lecture, easy to get to, huge university and accommodation may be tricky, a bit too focused on their reputation maybe

Newcastle - like Manchester but smaller and cost of living far better and more student wellbeing oriented. coming out top so far.

Still got Leeds to go.

Ok, thanks for that 👍 You've piqued my interest with Newcastle. I'll have a little look at there site.

Been to Leeds today - vying with Newcastle for Linguistics top spot now I think. Big selling point is their "Discovery modules" which are taken from across the uni so you can do something really different alongside your own subject. Downside - high crime rate.

Late into the running is Sheffield. Simply were no negatives.
Hi!

My name is Ellie and I am a 3rd year English Language and Linguistics student at the University of Sheffield. I have taken a variety of modules, mainly centred around linguistics. I am currently taking a module in TESOL too, which I cannot fault at all. The support and guidance offered by the tutors and lecturers here in great, and the modules themselves are incredibly interesting and fulfilling. In terms of course structure, you are given complete freedom to specialise and choose modules that interest/benefit you the most in your second and third year here. For example, I also picked up modules in stylistics, philosophy and education during my degree here that allowed me to really specialise and adapt my degree to greater benefit my future career path.

If you have any further questions, please do send them my way. Good luck with everything in the future!

Ellie
