Captain Tom's daughter defends decision to keep book profits

The family of fundraiser Captain Sir Tom Moore kept the profits from his books for themselves, it has emerged.

His daughter, Hannah Ingram-Moore, of Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire, and her family were speaking on TalkTV's show Piers Morgan Uncensored. They said they had kept the profits from the captain's three books - reportedly £800,000 - at his request.

She said her father wanted his family to keep the money in a company separate to the Captain Tom Foundation.

There is no suggestion that Ms Ingram-Moore did anything illegal by keeping the money from the book sales, rather than donating it to her late father's charity.

The amount of vitriol and envy directed at Hannah Ingram-Moore is appalling.
She doesn't need to respond to the horrid accusations of random strangers that are angry or jealous of her family members.
Nor defend her decisions to accept gifts from her father made during his lifetime, any inheritance he left to her in his will or fulfill the terms of her well paid contracts with the Captain Tom charity.

If people were led to believe that sales of the books were going to charity but not her, well then it's fraud?
People contributed financially under the assumption that their money was going to charity. I think it's supremely shady to have used the money in that way, since it is becoming increasingly clear that the bulk of the funds ended up enriching the family. It would rightfully enrage people, some of whom were directly affected by the deaths of their own loved ones in the pandemic, to find out that their donations went to building private spa complexes and other frivolities.

She has, arguably, stolen from a charity or at best looted it. After all, appointing herself a CEO on 100k was manifestly beyond the pale as well as, again arguably, defrauding people out of book sales. The forword from Sir Tom on the front about the sales going to charity was quite clear, her unilateral decision to keep the sales.. well. Calling it fraud is really not beyond the bounds of credulity imo.

All of the mainstream media articles I've seen seem to be going out of their way to emphasize that they are not accusing her of having done anything illegal as regards the books and her role with the charity.

According to this metro article, she received a gross salary of £63,750 in her role as interim chief executive officer from August 2021 to April 2022 and the Charity Commission had consented to an annual salary of £85,000.
It's very doubtful whether she had the power or any practical ability to unilaterally disregard any legally binding decision made by her father during his lifetime to donate all the book sale proceeds to charity.

Most likely the whole family received advice from multiple specialist lawyers & tax advisers during the captain's lifetime on how to maximise the potential for asset protection and ensuring that the family would legally be able to retain some personal financial advantages from their association with the charity.
Give me a slight sense of déjà vu in relation to the lawful but very opportunistic behaviour of dear old Arthur Scargill and the NUM.

Captain Tom had another daughter, Lucy Teixeira - but she's not listed as a Director of Club Nook Ltd which is where the money from the books went... when Hannah Ingram-Moore says captain Tom wanted the money to go to 'the family' I wonder if she only means her side of the family?

Possibly they could reflect on why they put some old duffer who walked round his garden on such a high pedestal.

Meh, whole thing ended up pretty grimy. But tbh it's just 1 instance of 1000000s of grasping kids clawing apart their families in slimy ways.

Well it was like a super silly season on the news - anyone remember this Woolwich ferry does donut on the Thames
Quite *****y but not illegal, it will however erode people’s trust in charities
