It is possible, if the place has installed scripts on the website that allow it, however its not common as can be exploited and become a security threat. If you haven't been told about it at uni then I would guess that its not possible. What uni is it?

Well seeing as I'm on the Leicester University page it would be pretty obvious I would be at Leicester.
Yes I know there is De Montford too... but I'm at Leicester Uni.
My dad was saying there is a program you can download which, if you leave your original PC/laptop on, will allow (with sufficient security) you to access the files on there from any other PCs/laptops with internet access, although i dont know how that would work with regard to university security things......

Yeah there's a few out there.... MS Windows has an application it bundles with the OS, but its hard to set up. https://www.gotomypc.com is the type of thing you're referring to I think (although there's a few about)
You're right about whether it would work on campus though, it depends on the uni's security configuration. I'd see your network administrator if you wanted to set something like that up. Although I'd probs just reccommend a USB pen drive..... gotomypc is slow and annoying! :P
