Engineering Work Experience

Hi, I'm a Year 12 Student in Sixth Form, and I'm looking for Civil Engineering work experience courses/placements from any universities or companies. Does anyone have any tips or help on how I could find some valuable work experience as I am currently struggling to find some.
Many thanks.

Contact local companies to see if they can offer anything. Not many do, but it's worth a try.
Email local companies and ask, some larger more corporate companies may have information on the website for work experience.
Hi there,

Here are some links to places you could look into:
https://in2scienceuk.org/
https://www.suttontrust.com/
https://www.nuffieldresearchplacements.org/
https://www.springpod.com/virtual-work-experience/engineering-work-experience/WEXP-00031
https://www.studentladder.co.uk/year-12/career-decisions/engineering-3/

Alternatively, I got my first work experience by contacting companies in my area to ask about what they offer so could be good to reach out. The worst they say is no

Good luck,

Hello!
I know it can be difficult for sixth formers to gain engineering work experience, I would reach out to local companies and see if they can offer you some form of internship/work experience. Be open minded about internships, you might not be able to get a specifically civil engineering one but any engineering would be great experience and its something to talk about in UCAS applications or interviews.
Attending networking events or reaching out to local companies/professionals on LinkedIn is a good way to meet people who can point you in the right direction. Even if you can't find work experience, networking with civil engineers will give you some good insight into the career and you might be able to finds yourself a mentor to help you with deciding university courses or who could provide you with work experience once you are at university. Networking is a vital part of becoming an engineering professional and its never to early to start!

Good luck,
Izzy (Lancaster Engineering Student Ambassador)
