I think it depends quite heavily on the person - but a lot of the time we just say stuff out loud and think "stupid stupid stupid".

I can second that. I have no idea how to flirt (except when it's with my friends, who I'm not trying to date) and have no idea if someone is just being nice to me or flirting with me when they're talking to me. Weird.
