Will good unis accept retake grades

Hi there,

My son is in year 12. Capable of getting BBB plus an A in Financial Studies/EPQ. its quite possible however that he could "bomb" in one of his exams (happened at GCSE). He will be looking at unis that offer the above grades, but if he misses their offer and has no luck during clearing at a preferred uni, is he better off to re-sit with a view to going to preferred uni (eg Lancaster, Leicester or Surrey/Sussex) or resort to a lower ranked uni where lower grades will be accepted?

Before I start enquiring at the admissions offices re their view of retake students, I wonder what others' experiences have been?

Thankyou
Can only comment on Leicester, but broadly speaking I don't think they're especially selective and would be surprised if they had any issue with retakes.

There are hundreds of candidates who retake their A-Levels at specialist colleges each year and get into all the universities for literally all degree subject courses. 🙂

cife - the sixth form experts - independent colleges in the UK

So you should not have any problems. 🙂 Unless it is Medicine, Dentistry, Law, History and Economics. ☹️

Business Economics is one of his preferences 🤔

As long as it is not a massively oversubscribed competitive course, then he should get a place. 😉
Leicteser ask for ABB for Econ, (so definitely not that selective), but note they take into account previous exam results. Probably a very small disadvantage vs. completing in one session but not so much it would make me consider applying elsewhere.
