I haven't personally done it, but a few of my coursemates did the foundation year at Manchester. As far as I can tell its quite generalised, so you won't have to pick which engineering course you take up then and there. I've also been told its not too hard in terms of the maths and physics content- does however mean a lot of time without contact hours and a fair bit of self-driven study. The people I know who have done it found it quite useful and have been a little ahead of everyone else for the first few weeks.
Hope this helps

Thank you so much for the reply! As it’s quite generalised, is it possible to move to another engineering course for first year? i know other universities have a nonspecific engineering foundation year and you only specialise in first year - is it anything like that?

Hi, whats the first year in Manchester like, very busy or manageable for Mech Engg students. Share whatever you can, if you have time. TIA
