Does prestige truly matter?

Whether we're talking about universities, schools, jobs, homes, societal positions, or whatnot. Do you really think that prestige means much? Some would say that prestige is everything. Others would say that as long as you have your health, you're okay. I am inclined to agree with the former, simply because, well, it's human nature to strive for the best. :p:

"The best" is subjective, I think. For some people, the "best" is a lot of money, for others, a job they enjoy, etc etc. I think everyone has different ideas of what's "best" tbh.

I don’t think it matters in the slightest. Why waste your life trying to live up to standards you can never meet in order to impress total strangers? Anyone narrow minded enough judge me on where I live and what job I do is not the kind of person I want to spend my time with, so why does it matter what they think?

And since when did “prestigious” mean “best” anyway?
