Bear in mind that Oak House can actually be two of your choices:
i.e. -
1. Oak House (with basin)
2. Oak House (without basin)
3. Random other choice

Sorry to bother with this again but since you seem to know about this kinda stuff and no one replied last time...

besides the obvious differences that a basin would bring, what's the pros and cons? I heard that the ones with a basin are in a smaller or kinda further away building? I don't really care for a basin so I don't wanna apply for it if I'm gonna end up kinda far from the other buildings.

(yeah I know it might sound stupid but I've no clue about accommodation)

thanks!

I have no idea about the location of the buildings. Go back a few pages on this thread as someone was listing the pros and cons of having a basin in Oak House.

The rooms in Oak House are small basin or no basin and they aren't that spread out so it is mostly a question of whether you wish to pay the premium to have the basin.

If I'm not mistaken, the engineering campus is located in the city centre at the old UMIST Site. For that any of the City accommodations are good because you get free bus shuttle which stops at most City halls and both campuses

thanks a lot. which course r u goin for and wer ru frm?

I'm hoping to go Manchester to do Accounting and Finance. I'm from Manchester itself and live around half an hour away from the main campus.

Where are you from?

You changed your mind from Weston already? I think the difference is that usually the room is a little larger or you get a larger bed (e.g. 4 ft or double). You really don't have to make so many posts about this though :s-smilie:
Sorry, but noone answered my comment

Is Fallowfield definitely better than the other campuses?

If so, my options are:
1. Owen's Park
2. Woolton Hall
3. Allen Hall (although apparently this one has a dead social life-is that true?)

I want somewhere catered, with/without basin (but not bothered about ensuite) and somewhere with a good social life and lots of students, but where i can get some sleep as well...

Is Woolton Hall dead compared to Owen's Park?
Is Owen's Park really as bad as everyone says?
Are the smaller courts of Owen's Park ok to be in or is it just the tower which is good?

Looking forward to your comments thankss

No halls are going to be completely dead, especially in Fallowfield, which is quite a lively student area. I can't speak from personal experience but my brother stayed in OP and he hated it (he's not unsociable or anything, he just seems to have been very unlucky with the people he ended up with). The food was supposedly inedible, the flat was disgusting and it was impossible for him to get sleep there. The people he was put with were a bit rah-ish and weren't interested in socialising with someone from a more normal background. He made friends elsewhere and spent most of his time away as a result. Obviously this is completely anecdotal and everyones experience will be different, so not too much of a help! A lot of people seem to love it there  his experience was enough to put me off though!

You mean a graduate job? They are hard to get in the UK as far as I know due to increase in graduates and decrease of investment, but if there's one university where you got a high chance, its Manchester.

Employers specifically target University of Manchester graduates because of the size of the university (largest single-site uni in UK) and high quality of the studies.

Don't know anyone staying in Woolton. Owen's Park is not as bad as everyone says, on the contrary it is fun! I dunno what you mean by "ok" and "good" in your 3rd question but I'd say if anything some of the other courts are more lively than Tower but also a bit more skanky/dirty (Tower isn't really skanky or dirty at all apart from sometimes the lifts aren't too nice after a big night)
ahh ok, thanks for replying. Sounds good. I guess you could get put with people you don't get on with anywhere you go... :/

I haven't been to Manchester yet but have my offer and have done a bit of research. My criteria is as follows so I hope this helps:
1. En-suite
2. Self-catered
3. Out of the city centre

I've heard that fallowfield is where the banter is and due to the high Asian population the city centre campuses are quiet. From people I've spoken too Richmond Park is the nicest(cleanest etc.) Canterbury Court looks sweet enough and I am yet to find a third choice but will hope it doesn't come to that.

Got to be honest, this is ****. I'm sorry, but I hear it time and time again and it's just so wrong. At the end of the day the people you're with make it or break it. Some Asian people are incredibly lively and I'm not even sure that there are more of them in city/victoria.

If you want to live in Fallowfield just factor in bus expenses - whether you walk or bike it there will be days when you just can't be bothered.
