I have VERY messed up relatives.

I wouldn't even know where to begin but pretty much my mom does not talk to any of her 10(out of 11) other siblings. They believe in this magic **** and it's absolutely ridiculous. Like, for example, we found a piece of paper that was wrapped around 3 cigarettes in the kitchen drawer. Or burnt pages of the Kor'an (Islam religious book) or random red stains and marks around the house. EVEN this piece of paper that was hidden in a drawer with random writings on it! (photo attached). Does anyone have ANY idea what it means? My mom is worried and she changed the locks to our house in Syria(We just visit there a few times a year & my mom's sisters used to have keys to it).

One time, my dad cut an outline of a bride on a piece of A4 paper. He poked two holes in the head (the eyes) and then burned it in the kitchen sink. Apparently, we are no longer cursed or jinxed.

I think it might be an Egyptian thang.

what? How is 'being a muslim'?. The photos wasnt arabic literature and muslims down leave red stains around the house. Although a counter argument would be that the sisters do show one sign of being a muslim and that is burning pages from the Quran - oh but you can also bury the pages other than burning them. Other than that - there are no other ways of disposing of Qurans in islamic ways.

This stuff "happens" all over...even in South Asian, specifically Bengali households. The stuff I've heard from friends/acquaintances..most of the time I think it's complete hocus pocus BS but when everything is going wrong, it sure does provide people a convenient answer to all their problems.

I knew about disposing of "religious" paper through burying or burning it (not entirely sure what's "religious"...), but if you don't mind me asking, why would you want to burn your copy of the Quran? :confused:

I always assumed that it was like the Bible in that everyone had one copy that they hung onto. I never imagined you'd want to "get rid" of it... :dontknow:

Well if the pages have gottem old, illegible and just falling to pieces anyway then that is the best thing to do. Muslims dont just bury or burn the Quran, it could be generally anything with islamic literature on it (i think). It is better to bury than burn.The reason behind burying or burning is becuase if we put it in the bin - it may get recyled and be part of something dirty like The Sun's page 3 or something. And I think you can calculate from that, that its better the Quran was burnt than be part of a porn magazine or was loo roll.

Yup, its better to bury it though. We burn or bury them because if we chucked it in the bin - it might get recycled and become part of loo roll or a porn mag which wouldnt be good lol.
