Typical Student Day

Scroll to see replies

Typical day I'll get up at 8:45 unless my very kind neighbour knocks on my door to tell me we're all having breakfast in their room, then I'll have to get dressed seriously quickly and run to 9am lecture. That finishes at 10, I'll either have a practical or I'll be able to go home, shower, do washing up, eat if I haven't already, until 12 lecture. Lunch after that lecture, except on Fridays when I have a supervision over lunch ( :frown: ), then maybe a practical/dissection or I'll do some work, getting back about four. I'll generally do work until dinner and then a bit after til about 8 at which point I'll head to the bar or a friend's room and drink and eat junk food. Then midnight-ish come on TSR and msn...
10/11am: Get up. Cups of tea, Facebook, TSR, general dossing about. Breakfast.
1pm: Do a little reading, like an hour. Check Uni emails etc.
2-3pm: Lunch. I usually watch Star Trek or something while I eat so, yeah, it takes a while.
3pm: More tea. Contemplate more work. Read Cracked, FML, etc.
4-8pm: Go to the library: read, notes, etc, etc.
8pm: Shower.
9-10pm: Dinner, watch a show or movie.
10-12pm: Doss around online listening to music or whatever.
12-2am: More reading, or something easy like highlighting journal articles printed off. Or more dossing around, whatever.
2am: Sleep.

All times are approximate.

I only have 5 hours of class in a week. Days I have it are basically the same though.

And some nights I go to the pub/out with my boyfriend.

It's a good life.

haha i love the way people have like three lectures in a day!
okay so my average day goes like this:
7:45 wake up have breakfast get changed & leave my flat by 8:30 for my
9am lecture
9am-1pm lectures usually 4 with 10mins break inbetween.
1-2 lunch
2-4/5 (sometimes 6!) lectures again get home about half hour later from whenever my lecture finishes
make dinner
watch a bit of tv
homework

its kinda depressing when there's people, like my friend who does a joint honours degree, who does less hours in a week than i do in a day!

at least you're getting what you pay for - an education.

I know (of) a guy who's retook his first year twice already and this year is his third time but he still hasn't shown up to any lectures or anything. some people are just weird.

Most of the responses so far suggests that a typical day is a easy lazy day.

Haha, nope.

For me its normally...

8am - 9am: wake up, make some kind of lunch for the day, no breakfast (overrated)
9am - noon: lectures or writing essays in library
noon - 1pm: lunch with course mates or run errands.
1pm - 5pm: more lectures or time in library doing work.
5pm - 6pm: dinner and chill out time
6pm - 8pm: gym or training
8pm - when i'm tired: back to library to do work or get drunk and go out
Then go home, chill out, watch dvd's etc, chill with mates...
off to BED

repeat...

So just wanna get a feel of what its gonna be like next year.

What do you usually do in a typical day and at night?

Cheers

Well today I got up at 7:00, got ready and left at 7:30, got to the tube station at 8. Arrived at the campus at 8:50. Had 2 lectures from 9 both lasting 2 hours, had an hour for lunch and then a 2 hour test and a 2 hour tutorial. Left the campus at 18:00 and got home at 19:00 had dinner and watched television!
In Uni days:
Wake up 7.30
Wait for the Uni bus in the ****ty rain, find out there are no seats left
Start Lectures at 9.00
fall asleep in lectures
Finish uni 4.30
Eat with my flatmates
Watch E4
Bed

Not in Uni:
Sleep
Eat
maybe work
Go out with flatmates
Bed about 4.30 am

when i was at uni...
wake up in time for lecture, but press snooze coz cba to actually get up
after some time, call friend(s) to see what they're doing
get laptop- hotmail, fb, youtube etc
then have some breakfast or go to the cafeteria for some food.

if there are still any lectures left, go to those
after lectures, go back to halls do some work

then meet up with friends, and cook/order food and sit and relax till late!
this morning i got up at eight for a 9.45 lecture (only takes 10 mins to cycle in but the morning papers aint gonna read themselves are they?!)

over by 11, group tutorial till I had to leave for my optional module at 3, which was over by 4. did a bit of the reading for my seminar tomorrow before cycling home and cooking dinner. went out to hockey training, ballsed up my knee and cycled home in agonising pain. would normally be doing more reading for tomorrows seminar by now but it was a short reading today. so i'm photoshopping some work instead.

I have a three day week. Only one morning start. I turn up to most lectures, may be drunk. Eat a lot. Cook meals for friends, have meals cooked for me. Then a few times a week I get horrendously drunk.

Well tomorrow my plan goes like this;

7:30 get up
7:45 have a shower
8:00 log onto PC and see if anyone quoted me on TSR (i hope someone quotes me)
9:00 have breakfast
9:15 meet my friends by the lift
9:30 tutorial starts
10:30 quick dash to coffee machine
12:00 tutorial finishes
12:15 lunch
1:00 attempts to start Part III section of the essay
5:00 relax
6:00 Tea time - I'm craving for pasta now
7:00 gets ready for a party
7:15 waits for the rest of the flatmates to get ready
9:00 flatmates finally ready
9:15 student union party
12:00 party finishes

four possible outcomes
12:15 either head back to the crib for a night in
12:15 either head back to the crib with a girl for a night in (Hopefully)
12:15 either head into town until 4:00 then head back to the crib for a night in
12:15 either head into town until 4:00 then head back to the crib with a girl for a night in (hopefully)

now you had a exclusive look at Big-Boss-91 plan of day!
I have absolutely no regular routine whatsoever and my days are always really different so I'll just do yesterday (MAJOR off-day, ughhh):

Woke up at 10am
Pressed snooze button way too many times which resulted in a rush getting ready
Went to 12:15 lecture on James Joyce's Ulysses. Was fascinated yet baffled.
Took six books about Ulysses out from the library
Came home and had a nap because I'm ill :frown:.
Woke up again and watched The History Boys with my housemate
Tried to do some work but failed because I felt so crappy
Made food which was omnomnom
Went to the pub for a bit
Came back and went on Skype for like two hours
At midnight: realised I had done no work. Panicked majorly. Did work.
And now I'm pointlessly wasting time on the internet.

When I'm not ill and can be bothered I work far more than that, go to socials etc etc. I have a study meeting, two society meetings, a shopping trip and a social tomorrow as well as work so I hope I feel better by then...

Uni Day
- Drag myself out of bed 30 mins before lecture. Usually 9:30.
- Lecture(s) / Seminar (s)
- Go back to room and chill. Have a cuppa, doss around on the net for a while.
- Crawl into bed and have a couple of hours kip.
- Toddle off to the library at around 6.
- Obviously working in the library. Leave at around 10/11:30.
- Do a little bit more work/doss around on the net.
- Shower.
- BED! :woo:

Weekend
- Get up around 1.
- Do some work.
- Doss around.
- Shower.
- BED! :woo:

Obviously meals fit in there somewhere :p: and sometimes seeing people, but that is my typical day.
Depends if I can be bothered on the day.

If I can then it's
Get up an hour before first lecture
Shower, get dressed and grab last bus possible to walk in just as lecture's starting
If there's anymore lectures for the day, then go home and sleep if it's >= 2 hours away
If it's less then go visit an on campus friend
Rest of the day's just hanging out with housemates, probably cook something at some point
Then pub for beer and pool

Or if I can't be arsed,
stay in bed till about 4 regardless of lectures
stare half heartedly at lecture notes till I can persuade myself I learnt something
Go grab a shower at some point
Get something to eat
Pub and pool

whats the afternoon tutorial about can i ask?

Sure. As we are nursing students we have tutorials with our tutor group and tutor every couple of months. We basically discuss how uni is going so far, any issues we are having, how to fill our portfolios etc

Can't wait to go to uni:biggrin:

Only in your first year.

I'm in my second year, and it is far from an easy lazy day. I am doing economics (hardly the most lecture-intensive course) and this week I have:
2 x 9am starts
2 x 10am starts
2 x 6pm finishes
1 x 5pm finish
1 x 9 hour day on campus
1 x 8 hour day on campus
1 x 7 hour day on campus

Thankfully, I have Friday off, and tbh, I think I deserve it

Wake up at 9, head to the Studio for 10. Design stuff until 5 with lectures and tutorials mixed in, then head home and design more until I can eat, then carry on designing until bed. Which depending on deadlines is between midnight and 5am.

Not very varied I'll admit but at least the studio is interesting enough
Uni is still a lot easier than working 9-5, 5 days a week.
Wake up at 8, lecture 9-10, 2 hour gap where I go to department library and work, lecture 12-1, 45 minutes for lunch, usually pop to sainsburys, practical 1.45-5.30, sports training 5.30-7.30, get back, shower, dinner, drinking from about 9.30, club at 11, home at 3.

Cambridge is pretty hectic.
