Just out of curiosity: Does anyone speak Cantonese here ????

I suppose most of the chinese people at cass speak the official chinese language Mandarin. That won't be that good because I won't understand a single word they would say. hmmmm....

there are quite few from cantonese background. but more speaking mandarin these days. well speak english then =), i speak mandarin as well handle chinese, although i can understand cantonese but not speak it, too dodgy for me to speak it lol.

From what I am aware of Aston is best for management and business courses provinding you do an industrial placement.
Cass is more maths and finance driven.

well Cass is less economics based but it has strong ]and investment, banking, insurance side of it. Thats my personal feeling of Cass, more specialised than wide. Especially the MSc degrees. But undergraduate i guess the business studies degree is quite popular in cass.

(edit sorry about one typo before)

hmm, I was told that for business studies both are equally good...and then you're supposed to have better prospects for a job when studying in london.

Anyway, I was thinking to change the course and do international banking if that suits me.
It shouldn't be that hard to change right ??

finbury is not a great place (depends what sort of flat mates you get, i stayed in peartree court myself which was better. 1st year students can be annoying...)
Does anyone know when the term starts? I can't find a specific date anywhere. This is my insurance for straight economics. Thank you.

For City, it's departmental specific. Try searching the faculty pages - from a quick look see the City website certainly lists both Continuing Education and Maths term dates

Does anyone know anything about the speech therapy department? I'm considering applying for 2006 you see and am gathering all my info.

Is cities campus relatively safe? I've heard some bad things about islington/angel!

@kiwy:
How'd you get your finance managed? I mean, who is going to support you with your studies? Germany does not support people studying abroad, though!

You're right in saying that Germany does give financial support, but as a member of the European Union I pay the same tution fees as UK students.
So that's not a big deal really, accomodation is the expensive thing (especially in london) but I haven't figured anything out yet .
With CASS as my insurance choice they won't provide me with a room in one of their halls easily.

oh! I figured everything out...I am going to be damn poor, almost living on the verge of damnation --> this means I am going to be stingy^10.

if you add tuition fees with accommodation costs, it would make about 4000 pounds (=6500€). Let me tell you, I don't stem from a rich family.
This is all I need to pay just for being in London. I did not include food!, travelling fares!, sport activities! etc.
This kills you!! I am just sad about Germany's attitude towards students.
no scholarship, no student loan, just nothing.

Hi Repro, I speak Cantonese but not fluently and I also have a 'gwai mui' accent! :frown: Better at listening (Canto and a bit of Mandarin), reading and writing Chinese though.

Has anyone received any information from the uni yet (term dates etc...) apart from Freshers' Week details?

Hi bbcer!
i have to admit that i had a loud laughter about your "gwai mui". Me either, my cantonese is gradually vanishing. There is also hardly anyone i can talk to in cantonese in Germany. I inofficially belong to an ethnic minority.

But how did you learn to write and read? I assume you must have attended a chinese school in the UK, right?

Same here for me as there aren't many Chinese people around where I live. Although I could talk it with my family but it's a lot quicker if I spoke in English  I watch a lot of Hong Kong dramas so my Cantonese is improving.

Yep, that's right. I'm so glad now that my parents made me go to Chinese school when I was young!

So what are you gonna study at City? I'm gonna be doing Maths and Finance.
