keen yes, but medicine probably wont actually become a reality for me :PI'm currently trying to get some in my local GP now, i'm not entirely 100% sure medicine is the right path for me. I don't want to get halfway through a-levels thinking I should have picked something else. + I'm hoping that the non-science factor will be helpful when trying to explain why I picked literature

Be positive, you never know what will happen
Its good that you're thinking carefully about it, it is a big decision.
Picking lit has given you a nice mix of subjects, I'm assuming you must enjoy it so thats all good too.
Good luck with it all  You'll be fine

Ive applied to Bradford uni in the summer to do a residential with Leeds uni and you live the life of a med student  should be fun if i get a place !!! By the way what are your GCSE predictions/grades like ??

Currenntly;

Maths - had to sit F level to ensure got a C so i got a C
Physics - A*, A
Chemistry - A*,B
English Coursework - A's , B's

sounds like a good idea, ( the residential) i'd love to do something like that :O good luck in getting a place!
+ my gcse predictions are ridiculous. I go to a school in special measures and they expect me to get around 16 A*/As. i was like, pfft, no. But i did already get a B in maths and an A* in english language, so maybe its not TOO ridiculous

I've looked it up, the uni's i wanna go to, i.e Cambridge, ICL, Kings (NOT UCL which seem to have the most annoying admissions policies known to man) allow it up to AS at the very least

 Clearly, maths is unimportant to me....I actually hate it haha.
Good that you're up on your research though

I'm trying to be positive, but my teachers think I have no realistic chance and my parents..? would be happier if I worked at ASDA.
+ thankyou, hopefully work experience will make my career path a fair bit clearer

also i apologise to everyone for my excessive number of posts on this topic, i'm ill and have little else to do ):
Who isn't?
There are so many medic hopefuls here XD
I was going for it, and after that specialise in Psychiatry, but the mere idea of dissections put me off and I chose to pursue Psychology instead :P
Lol, don't most people on TSR have little else to do? Although I'm currently procrastinating for my mocks this week. Lots of year 11's here  I forget just how competitive medicine is sometimes.

This thread is better placed in the medicine forum.

Good times, wish I was in year 11 again. :p:

That is way too much. Seriously, the extra qualifications are not worth getting.

Only the most prestigious unis (oxbridge) will actually look at the extra work that you have done. Cambridge want an average of 90% UMS or above over three AS levels. The extra work wont matter unless you meet this requirement. It is very likely that you will just stress yourself out. The benefits of doing an extra A level are very slim. 5As look way better on an application than 4As and 2Bs. Don't spread yourself too thinly.

Critical thinking requires very little work but unless you are fluent in German, i would advise dropping that.

i'm only doing biology out of school because my school won't let me take it in school, and everyone at my school does Crit Thinking AS. German i love - my teacher already thinks i'd get an A minimum, if not an A* so i'm definetely taking that.

I'm thinking of:

Maths (doing fast track so it'd be stupid of me to drop it)
Bio
Chem
Phys
5th SUBJECT (yes i know that i'll have no life if I take 5 but i'll drop one): debating between further maths and german

Well, IMO, doing 5 is completely unnecessary. If you want to do a 5th, it won't really matter which one. It's worth noting that some medical schools count Maths and Further Maths as one subject, but then again, since it's your 5th subject, you'll have already satisfied the requirements for doing enough A Levels so that wouldn't really matter.

Your school wont let you take bio? Why?

If you love German, thats fine. Just prepare to take on an enormous amount of work. Its not going to be easy, but if you want to do it and you're dedicated, then go for it.

Just try not to be a hero. If its getting too much for you, drop something. Like i said, 5 really good grades are way better than 6 mediocre ones.
MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Im in yr 12 and doing bio, chem, critcal thinking, physics, maths
So many people have tried to put me off doing German A-Level xD

The thing is, although I want to pursue a career in medicine, I also want to be fluent in German. I know A-Level doesn't equal fluent, but it'll help. If I end up having to take a gap year if I don't get into med school the first-time around, I want to go to Germany for a fair while.

meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!! (currently in y11)

thinking of:

- maths
- chemistry
- physics
- german
- biology (self-teaching)
- critical thinking (AS)

stupid teachers at school not letting me study biology at a-level so i have to take it out of school :frown:

I wouldn't worry about self teaching biology. I reckon it would be better than being taught; in fact I think that if my class self taught from beginning of September we could have finished both modules by now. Since most of it is being familiar with factual material. Although you may have to do something about the practical work (not sure what/how).

Chemistry
Biology

Psychology

And also going to get work experience in summer at Bristol Royal Infirmary hopefully

With hindsight, were it up to me, I wouldn't have done biology, I'd do english lit instead..

Yes. I'm in yr 12 (Northern Ireland) so next year for AS I hope to do chemistry, biology, maths and probably physics and history. Anyone any advice on which one I should drop at A2? Physics or history?
They'll be a fair few...
