Oh yeah. I applied for accommodation some time ago but I'm just wondering if it is right.

My first ever year at uni is this year and they put lots of different student types. I put myself as undergraduate new 2013/2014

is this right?

Yes, I believe so.

Hey to all in the thread, I was just wondering if anyone knew much about changing accommodation. I've been offered a condition room for a 38 week occupancy (which is fine) but not as ideal as 30 week. My question is: Am I able to discuss with any of the accommodation advisers to change my 38 week occupancy to a 30 week one? The room offer isn't yet set in stone as I'm not actually able to accept the contract but it has been accepted and put forward. I really should be a lot more clued up about this but I can't seem to find much about this particular issue; many thanks, Frankie.

If you find someone who's willing to swap rooms with you, then the two of you can approach accommodation services and sort something out. But the only way of doing so is by doing it through the university, so make sure that if you do find someone to swap with, that you do it through official means- otherwise the university will kick up a fuss if they find out.

You can get rooms on campus for over the holidays, including for the summer holiday, but it's very expensive (more expensive than during term time, I believe). But if money is no object, then yes you can. An alternative is finding a room in a house for the summer, which might work out a bit cheaper.

You can apply via halls reception towards the end of the term, but even if you're already in Founders/Kingswood, terms (which I can't find right now :frown:) say you'd have to use a different room. It's currently £15.30/day, which pro rata is about the same as a £3,200 (termly) or £4,100 (sessional) let.

I think your best bet is just to call and ask:

Hey, what happens after we applied for accommodation?

Do we receive an offer by email/post?

How long do we have to pay a deposit and secure the room?

Can we ask for a different room?
Thanks

No offer by post, you might get some sort of a notification by email but it's probably worth just keeping an eye on the status checker thing.

I don't know how long you'll have after you receive the offer to secure the room, but it'll say on the status checker once you've got the offer.

You can't ask for a different room as far as I'm aware. If you really want a different room after you've moved in, you can swap with someone else via accommodation services, but it's up to you to find someone else who wants to swap, and then you have to do it officially through the university.

Hope that helps!

The most information I can give you is 'yes'. One of them is newer, one of them is older- one has pod like bathrooms, whilst the other has furniture and bathrooms more reminiscent of the style you see in the newer halls.

As for which is which, I have no idea, I'm afraid.

Hi, I have applied to stay in Founders. Can anyone tell me what the toilets are like, are they in separate rooms or in a room full of cubicles? This is my only concern about founders and I cant find out anywhere! (I was too embarrassed to call up and ask someone!).

Hi, the toilets in Founders really vary due to the nature of the Founders building (which, being Victorian, has quirky shaped rooms and such) - in some cases, you have a room with toilet cubicles and in other cases you may have two shower cubicles plus two separate rooms within the room that contain toilets, and again, you may also just have a room with wash basins plus individual rooms within the room for toilets (as opposed to cubicle style).

Hope that makes some kind of sense! Once you move into Founders (which is AMAZING to live in, by the way  ), you can do a little hunt around - find out what type is nearest you but also check out how they differ along the corridor, on the floor above/below etc. x

P.S. they are all undergoing a refurb this summer so will be nice and shiny and new but the structure (in the case of the room within a room ones) will still be the same due to the aforementioned nature of the Founders building.

That is so great, thank you! I just received and accepted an offer of accommodation in founders so I am quite excited now
I've got a place in Founders for this year! what are you're experiences (those that stayed there?) I heard its the most sociable which is definitely what I want.

When you have your room, do you also have kind of a sitting room/kitchen-like area (i know we don't have kitchens) where you can meet up with those near you/live with you?
Also, are there regular meet ups to drink/party in Founders and where? (love a drink gathering!)

The idea of a 'most sociable hall' is a misnomer- there's really no such thing. But, yes, Founder's does give you ample opportunity to meet with lots of other residents considering the lack of divide between corridors.

You'll have pantries, which tend to be of a pretty decent size, but the lack of chairs mean that they're not great for socialising (though I'm sure many people socialise in them nevertheless). I've heard a lot about the infamous corridor parties in Founder's, so that seems to be the main space in which residents gather to socialise.

Hi, most people hang out in the corridors - they're wide and have electricity sockets so you can have chilled movie nights or play music if getting ready to go out etc. Parties also happen - either in corridors or the quad. Some Founders rooms are massive and tend to be a social hub (if you know the person living there, that is!) while I once fit 13 people in my standard sized room for movie & pizza time... you can also leave your door open which instantly makes life more social - chat to the people going past, cups of tea whilst essay writing etc..
There is also a common room on the East side, third floor.

Hope that helps!
Hi-this is probably a stupid question, but I just got my accommodation confirmation e-mail through and I was wondering where it actually says which room I've been allocated? Sorry, the whole thing's confusing me.

Hi, you have to follow the link on the email to the RH online accommodation site. Here you have to log in, then go to contracts, then press view, then press view or something AGAIN and I think then it takes you to the page that says what you have been offered. Hope that helps, I can't quite remember but it was something like that.

Thank you so much, I was looking under "Applications" and not "Contracts". D'oh.
