What about a PGCE in Science at the LMU? I have heard the best about the science mentor, but I am worried regarding the bureaucratic parts and the organization. Is anybody here that is doing/did a PGCE at the LMU?

Hi there,

I have forwarded on your query to the course leader so will get back to you as soon as they reply!

Hope this helps.

Thank you  It helps, but I would also like to talk with some current/past students to hear about their experience!

Hi,

I just got contact from one of our PGCE Biology students. He said,

"The PGCE science courses at LMU are as challenging as those of other institutions. There's plenty of work to do but it's certainly manageable if you're organised and disciplined with your time. The formative assignments along the way ('patches') are individually designed to support and build your skills as you go through the course, so each one feels important and useful rather than just extra workload.

Time in university is well organised and relevant at all stages; it's planned and managed in a way that doesn't feel like it's taking time away from school.

The two main final assignments are also well timed at the end of the course so as not to hamper your progress on your teaching placements, where practising and improving your teaching is paramount."

I hope this helps and if you have any further questions you can let me know and I can put you in touch with the student!

Thanks,
Kyle :h:
HI

I have just completed the extended undergraduate Science (Chemistry, Biology, Psychology etc.) first year and it was almost universally, the most appalling year in terms of academics and social life.

The Students as a whole are clearly considered a commodity. According to our year tutor, "at least half the people on the course should not have been taken on and did not even have the most basic of qualifications for the course."

The organisation is appalling (any other business would have gone bankrupt). I had my math papers marked multiple times;
4 times on the first paper and twice on the second and the third paper was discounted by the university, because it did not test for on the lecture material, we had to beg a lecturer to cover for our missing invigilator so we could sit the final math exam. Not conducive to student stress levels and is not fair or equitable.

Generally the marking between groups appears completely random for essays and Chemistry mini tests.

The uni is very big on self development learning, which means do it all yourself in the library if you want any chance at all of passing and/or permanently attach your self to a study group in the library.

At one stage we had a lecture, in which the lecturer had gone AWOL and we had to get the course tutor in to give us a couple of lectures as a fill in.

For one module half the class walked out as a protest against the poor quality of the lectures and lecture material. When I complained to the year tutor I was told she was S**T, his words not mine. But there was nothing he could do and we all needed to put in a formal complaint. Which we did and it was up held.

We had to lose a marked lab session because there was not enough cover.

Academically for this course at least, the one thing you do learn is to cover all the material for the course yourself in the library and attend the lectures as a signing in process. You have to sign in for every lecture. Which is really stupid, since you can sign in and leave.

Socially:

There is no social life. The student union is a joke in my opinion. There are no social events with other universities, there were no student events to see London, there is no listing for events, such as the comedy clubs, night clubs, cheap theatre tickets etc. there were no student house parties, It doesn't help that a large proportion of the intake I saw at the tower site are of one denomination, a more multicultural intake would have made it feel less like a college rather than a university.

There was little, if no socialisation between courses.

I have children that are in other universities in London and have an amazing social life.

If you have any other option take it. This university charges the same fee as Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Kings etc. It's like paying for a Bentley and being given a bike. It is ridiculous.
Hi Everyone,

I would like to ask for the previous and current of LMU Business Administration about their experience while studying in this uni, i have a plan to take my top-up MBA in this uni through an online distance learning is their any reliable tutor whom i can contact when its needed pls advice before i made a right choice.

Thanks you,
Jay

Guys what do you think about Tourism & Travel Management? I feel like I'll probably end with low-paid job or with job in different part of business. Should I change to Business and Management? Is it possible after 3 weeks of learning?

Hey links313,

My name is Joey and I was a student here. While I know there is a massive worry for many students about getting jobs after university, London Met graduates have done incredible well in achieving high levels of employment. In 2015, we were voted the second highest graduate employment score and we are incredibly proud.

We hope that you pick the course that you would love to do and be happy with throughout the next three years. I was a student at London Met and I know how it feels. I changed my split course after the first year because I wanted to focus on one side of my course instead.

However, once I moved to a single course of my choice I found that I loved it so much I didn’t worry about getting a job at the end until it came to finding one. I would suggest that you do what makes you happy and gain as many experiences and opportunities along the way.

They help so much when it comes to the end and your lecturers are sure to help you find great ways to get involved. I hope this has helped and please do ask me any more questions you may have.

Best,
Joey

Hi aadedeji2

Thank you for getting in contact with us. At London Met, the sports students are able to work closely with a number of local sporting teams, including Arsenal which is very close by to our Holloway campus.

On our Sports Science and Physical Education course, these experiences have led to 93% satisfaction levels and 100% of our students in further education or in employability after leaving. 83% of these students are in managerial roles.

London Met makes sure to help students be the best that they can be and there so we make sure that you are doing the best you can during the course. The course allows you to go out into the field and to begin doing what you would like to do from the moment you begin. This allows you to have a really hands on experience.

The course is also taught in our science centre, which has had a £30million renovation. The centre has the most state-of-the-art equipment for you to use whilst studying, to help with your research and skills.

To find out more you can click here: http://www.londonmet.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/sports-science-and-physical-education---bsc-hons/ or if you have any further questions please do let us know.

Thanks,
Joey
Worst Uni ever. Zero respect for students, you will be taught by recent graduates or people who do not know how to speak fluent english. I genuinely regret hosing this university. It's hard to imagine any other university could be worse.
And as someone said before me, students are just a commodity here. Nobody cares what you do or think. Shut up and pay.

Hi Mohammed Umed,

My name is Hasnai and I am London Met Uni official student rep!

Sure we have reviews on our GDL course. Here's what one of the students had to say "Studying Law at London Metropolitan University has been one very interesting aspect of my life. I have been able to gain the much needed commercial awareness in today's world. The support I have received from the tutors have given me the ability to stand and discuss on topical issues within and outside the United Kingdom. I have also been motivated to obtain an advanced degree. I strongly believe that the knowledge I have received from my studies at London Metropolitan University would enable me to face the challenges ahead as well as contribute my quota to the development of society." - GDL student

Did you know that 100% of graduates from this course were in work or further study within six months of graduation (2015-16, Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) survey.)

I hope this helps if you have any more questions feel free to contact me!
I agree with you - avoid this uni at all costs. Very poor teaching and bully culture is promoted, Also students are segregated by race. Shocking to believe but its true - see for yourself!
As a previous student, (and returning to my studies this year) I don’t agree with most of these negative statements.

I did 18 months studying biomedical science here (as the qualification is accredited by the the institute of biomedical science), and I was so well supported. I have a mental health condition and was allocated a mental health support worker, whom I saw weekly and was very helpful to me. My lecturers hadn’t ‘recently graduated’ and were mature individuals who were also happy to answer any questions you had. I felt fully supported and would have loved to continue my course. Due to personal reasons, I suspended my studies but am due to return, and personally, I can’t wait.

I have had no problems with the work or lecturers, and their science lab is pretty amazing (and huge), and not all universities have a category 3 superlab. Perfect for what I needed and I am more than happy to share my experience.

I can’t actually comment about the student union and activities, as I only used the bar. As a mature student, I already have a chaotic life, so it wasn’t relevant to me

I don’t think it’s a waste of time or money. Perfectly well supported by lecturers and course leaders and the course I’m on is accredited.
