Americans applying to university in the UK

I just got my first "UCAS Application Status Notification‏" email and I am hyperventilating. I'm scared to check :/

I don't know if this is helpful at all, but I've just been through the medicine application process for 2012 entry. Other people have done a much, much better job of answering your questions than I ever could, but if you have any questions for an American who's fought the dragon and lived to tell the tale I'd be more than happy to give them a go.

I'm not sure how the application process turned into a dragon. It seemed totally reasonable when I was writing that sentence, and then became weird upon rereading.

At least they're not requiring 3 5s I was surprised that Durham didn't ask me for any high AP scores, especially given how high their offers for UK students usually are is Durham your first choice?

Just repped you for that! And ah, things often become dragons along the way. /weird-sounding-statement Such as sitting through ninety minutes of math. XD Anyway, I don't exactly have any immediate questions, but I hope you don't mind (that) much if I randomly ask you some questions a few months later! For now, I have enough information to ponder where I want to try for (I have it narrowed down to either somewhere in New England, the West Coast, or England).

There's not much substance in this post, but I thought I'd reply anyway. Because I really will take you up on that offer and you may or may not find yourself bombarded with impossible questions six months into the future. :D

Durham without a doubt then. Has the strongest domestic reputation, hands down.

Has anyone here received an offer from LSE? If so, how long did it take and what were your qualifications?

I did last year. I applied mid October (Oxbridge deadline), and received my offer the last day in March. I applied with 4 APs already done, each were 5s. Applied with predicted 5s in 5 others. Received a condition of a 5 on my GovPol exam. Oh I also applied for BSc Politics and Philosophy. Good luck!

Durham is my top choice as well! Have you heard back from a college yet?

No :/ I've only just received an offer less than a week ago, though.

Can someone please help me understand my conditional offer for the University of Nottingham?

The conditions are:

"AP scoring 543
including 5 in Literature and Composition plus
IELTS (academic) with an overall score of 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each element or 87 in TOEFL
IBT (21 listening, 22 reading, 23 speaking, 21 writing) or 62 in Pearson Test of English (55 in
reading, writing, speaking and listening)"

They want you to get a 5 on your AP Lit exam, plus at least a 4 and a 3 on two others. Then they also want you to take one of the following exams that test your English abilities (IELTS, TOEFL or Pearson - all common exams and it should be easy for you to arrange a date to sit one of those) and acheive a score within the ranges they have provided for each. Not sure why they're asking you to do that but hopefully someone else can shed some light on it?
