Letter of introduction? Help!

Hi all,

I'm due to be starting my PGCE with the university of Bath in a week, and I've been told that I need to write a letter of introduction to the headteacher of my first placement school, and to send it in the first week of September.

However, I have no idea what I am supposed to include in the letter? We have to include this little form thing that we filled out with our contact details, A level grades, degree classification, main foci of degree and reasons why we want to teach.

So I've filled that out, but I am still to even start a draft of the letter. I was going to start with "Thank you for allowing me to come into your school as part of my teacher training. I am a recent graduate of the university of Reading, achieving a 2.1 classification in Biomedical Sciences." And then I got stuck...

Any ideas on what I can/should also include?

Thanks!

Oh my god that's really bad if they haven't even told you what sort of things you should be writing! Perhaps that means that it's not that important???

Have they already told you your SE1 school? I assume so, so go on the website and swat up - drop things in the L of I like, "I am looking forward to the possibilty of ... getting involved in your drama club..." or whatever you see and would like to do/ if anything. Or maybe if you've seen some new sciencey technology you can say that you are familiar with it (don't lie though).

I would keep it really short, like a covering letter. Perhaps 50-100 words :yep: The school is getting money to have you, so might not even read it to be honest...

They haven't told us anything at all, really :frown:

Yeah, luckily I do know which school I'm going to be placed in, and I have browsed their website (it's my Mum's former school, actually!). I do feel quite lucky, because they are a science specialist school, so perhaps I'll mention something about that?

I think keeping it short is a good idea, maybe two small paragraphs? Like you said, they probably won't read it, and I'm already including lots of information about myself on the other form I had to fill in and send to them.

Thank you for your help

Yeh I think you'll be fine. Two small paragraphs is exactly what I was thinking actually! Just show you're keen and enthusiastic. Good luck!
