Caught Shoplifting....

Ok, I know we shouldn't of done it but.... It happened.

Today me and one of my friends got caught shoplifting in boots. We were taken into a security room by the security guard.

We offered to pay for the stuff (about £20) he wasn't having any of it... He got the manager to come and she said we would be banned from the store, fair enough, but also said they were going to call the police and have us arrested....

After about 30 minuets, the police arrived. We were both handcuffed, (as the door was open).

The police went off and had a chat with the manager, after about another 10 minuets, the came back and said that they were going to do 'street bail'.

This basically means that we have 'technically' been arrested for theft, and the police will come and take us into custody at a pre arranged time from our homes...

We asked if we could not be taken in now, the police were on foot patrol and no vans available....

Im dreading telling my parents that, the police are going to come to the house and collect me tomorrow @ 10am...

I asked them if I have to go in a police car, and he said no. And replied you'll have to go in a van... Do you think the'll put me in a restraint handcuffs tomorrow? Will I have to be put in a cell or do you think the'll just interview me and deal with it...

My friend is getting picked up tomorrow at 10:30, so I presume the'll pick me up and then her...

Argh!

Clearly, one has to face the consequences their actions bring about. It's just the way it is.

As for the OP, you'll have to explain it to your parents. Tell them it won't be repeated - you don't have another way out of it. I'm sure they'll understand if you explain yourself well - afterall, they're your parents.

This happened to me, although not exactly the same so I can't help you with whether you'll be in restraints in the van. In my case the police took me to the town police station straight away and asked for my mother's number, and they said I could come in a few days later to the main station and go through the process but my mum was so angry she demanded it was done straight away. That was an awkward car journey.

When I got there (from what I can remember, this was a few years ago now!) I was basically fingerprinted, interviewed by the police officer who arrested me, and then brougt up in front of the desk sergeant who basically had a massive go at me and gave me the right what-for haha. I definitely wasn't put in a cell, I was just taken into an interview room and it was recorded.

How old are you? That might affect how you're treated. I was 16 at the time and I think he said it would disappear when I was 18 or in 5 years, whichever was longer, so that was 5 years time for me. It does still show up on enhanced CRBs though I do believe. It also depends on whether Boots want to prosecute you, I was lucky because I was caught with in excess of £200 worth of stuff and the HMV store manager did not want to take it further.

My mum also made me go and personally apologise straight after I'd been interviewed. I was also put forward to some sort of liason officer but it wasn't compulsory.

EDIT: Loving how I'm getting negs for a stupid irresponsible mistake that none of you know the back-story to, when I've already completely taken the consequences for it (and alot more in besides) but don't have the balls to actually talk to me!

I guess you'll have to spend all tomorrow begging

I would tell my mum straightaway if I were you its worse if she's surprised tomorrow with a police van

If you are complacent with their request they would be no need for them to hand cuff you - if they do, they are on a power trip. Depending on how many people they have got in, you may need to stay in a cell for a little period of time - it won't be hours on end.

Have you heard that Akon song? Locked-up? :wink:

Im 17.... Were you handcuffed when they took you to the station... We were whilst we were in boots, that makes me think they will tomorrow...

Hmm, I don't *think* I was... I had a pretty big police escort though, you can tell it's a small town and nothing ever happened.

I don't know why they would handcuff you in the van when they let my parents take me on their own to the station themselves. I have no idea how other police forces run though unfortunately.

The best option is just to tell your parents. I was a nob and tried giving the police a false number at first and it just made the situation worse, so yeah. Unfortunately it's going to have to be something you take responsibility for.

Thanks... I guess as we were cuffed today, we'll be the same tomorrow. They wouldn't want to undo the cage in the van and for me to run..

I guess because they are picking me up and then my friend I presume. I guess they will as I can't see them wanting to open the door and me to leg it... Not that I would.
