I had a selection day at KCL, it was great  The group interviews are slightly different to other institutions I think. I was in a group with 5 other girls, all wanting to do Child Nursing (myself included). So I think they will only put you with people from your desired branch  Then they ask for your name, and why you want to be an X nurse.

Then they give you a group activity, where they see how you interact with others. We were given the task of planning a Christmas party on a children's ward, bearing in mind that children hospitalised over Christmas would be very ill. It's about working together, showing initiative and listening to the ideas of others.

Afterwards there is a feedback session about how you thought it went. I had two lecturers in my interview, both from Child branch however they were specialists in different fields. They may ask you further questions after the discussion, and you can ask them questions about KCL and nursing generally. They were both lovely and there was a good atmosphere in the room. Don't worry, and good luck!

I attended and I've been offered a conditional offer . I'm so happy - basically as is said above happens although I want to do adult so we organised a Christmas party in a elderly care home. Just make sure you contribute enough but too much, don't take the lead unless no one else does, speak clearly, DON'T cross your arms or look in anyway defensive and look into people eyes when they talk and nod approvingly :'). I do this in real life so I wasn't exactly faking it but I believe these have all helped me get an offer, as well as a good maths result  haha.

Good luck!! X

Well done! Are you going to firm King's?
Hi yes I have some sorted for later this month so I'll get a good few months before the course starts  since I'm 22 I have a lot of life experience which brings transferable skills and I've already got a degree. Hopefully the group interview will be okay, we did a lot of presentations and group debates at uni so i don't find them too daunting  I'll defo read up on current issues though as I think we may have to debate an issue..

Got rejected from KCL because I failed the group interview. I don't have any work experience as well but I know one friend of mine from last year who got rejected right away (without any interview) because of lack of experience. So I think work experience wouldn't matter that much in our part since they've already invited us for an interview. But yeah, we still need to get at least some experience before Sept.

Have you been invited to interview at Nottingham for the masters?

I was invited but the (first) interview wasn't until April 17th. From the load of info they gave me they wont make a decision about offers until November 2013 for January 2014 start. That's far too late for me since the other courses will have started in September so I had to withdraw.

Just maybe something to consider if you're applying for courses with September starts as well.
Does anyone know how long it takes forTeesside to get back in touch? I sent my application off beginning of December, I've got an interview for Northumbria but not even received an acknowledgement from teesside. I heard Back from northumbria within 2 weeks.I'm thinking it maybe because of the Xmas break but didnt think it would take this long.

Of course  I got a C at GCSE at it has never been my strong point, but I found the test simple. I would really recommend practicing the method as well as the answers on the maths test, as it is the same questions with different values in the real thing! It's all simple, such as percent, ratio, addition, averages and some such things. Like I said, practice!

I know you didn't ask about the literacy, but I'll put a brief summary anyway. Firstly there is a free writing activity related to problem solving and initiative which allows you to be quite creative with your ideas. Then there is is a paragraph taken from a study which relates to nursing. You have to summarise this is 4 to 6 sentences in your own words. Again, there are practice papers on their site. Going in prepared made me feel much more confident so I could focus on the group interview.

Thanks very much, after a lot of rejections, I fell in love with King's and I just hope I get the grades to go now! Good luck to you, if you have any other questions feel free to ask x

Thank you o much for your reply . Yes I too also got a C at maths and theredfore was worried but I have been practising and over going over fractions, percentages etc. And thanks for mentioning the literacy I forgot to ask you about that. I've some of the sample questions for me to do and practise with.
So how was the interview? And is Kings your first choice? If you don't mind me asking what other unis have you applied to? I have applied to UEA, City of London, Southanpton and Northampton. But really want to go to Kings

Thanks again

Anytime  Oh good. That's ok, just thought I'd mention it. I think the interview was good. Try and show them who you are and your good ideas, but also cooperate well with your group and listen. Be yourself! And show your passion  King's is my first choice, however it was Southampton originally. I was rejected by Southampton, Nottingham and Surrey without interview, and I was really sad but the King's offer has made me feel better. I love King's! I have an interview at Manchester on January 16th, so hopefully they will be an excellent insurance choice, all going well. Otherwise I won't have one, haha! Good luck with all your choices. You are welcome x
