I specialised my first half of my coursework on the Fourth Crusade its wonderfully mad, Alexius Angelus the leader of Constantinople promising them money he didn't have to invade and install him as Emperor, then having to melt everything down before getting strangled by his own people

Carry on Crusading

Aw man, I missed a trick there! Mine was Saladin-focused, interesting dude, but wouldn't make much of a sitcom

Oh I dunno, I can imagine an ironically camp 70s style comedy, "Arab You Being Served?" has a nice ring to it

Whereas if you had concentrated on Richard the Lionheart, it would have made a musical comedy.

I would like to console you coursework people without mentioning that I don't have any to do myself but I don't think I can  (although I guess the EPQ was about as much work so ho hum)

I opted for the EPQ, but decided that it wasn't for me at all a few weeks in (I had no idea about how important the production log would be in relation to the actual essay, and I hate write ups with a passion) so switched out to A2 Critical Thinking. What did you do yours on?

When we did Weimar Germany for GCSE we spent two weeks looking at the art, hehe :teeth:

Heh, we spent about half a lesson on it. I don't think our teacher was very keen.

I love History, can't wait to start History and Politics, very nervous about getting the AAA though

Same; I try not to think about the possibility of not getting AAA too much. :frown: I'm grateful it isn't A*AA like most of the scientists have to get, but it still feels like a lot of pressure.

That's the type of thing I'd write if I had the time and will-power

Arts subjects tend to be more vague on exams too, they can go either way and when they're essay-based it can be all or nothing

Hey all! budding SPC historian here :P

can't join in your concerns about grades I'm afraid - I've finished my A levels! I will say this though: people are always, always pleasantly suprised with how well they have done. Absolutely everyone I know was freaking out about their results, and so sure they would miss their offers... most of them exceeded them! If you have done well at AS you really have nothing to worry about, especially as oxford doesn't ask for those pesky A*s for many subjects! mostly you can get away with low B's or even Cs in your final exams and still get the A. I'm not advocating slacking, but it takes the pressure off!

as for the EPQ, I got a C, hah, but it doesn't seem to have affected me too badly.... shhh....

*crawls out of the deep, dark hole of doom of History coursework*

Woohoo, just completed it and handed it in today! Time to rejoice by making up for all the lost sleep.

you've finished your history coursework already?! I didn't hand mine in until april!

This is true. I usually find myself writing a whole load of garbage hoping that the examiners eat it up. Fortunately, it seems to have worked so far but I live in fear that one day they'll come to their senses and see right through it. :colondollar:
Happy half term, everyone! Any plans?

Yup, all done. However, I'm pretty certain I haven't done very well: as well as rushing it, I'm not even sure I've done it entirely right. Our school doesn't look at any drafts or give us much guidance at all on the research: they say they're not allowed to because of the exam board regulations but if that's the case, other schools seem to be bending the rules quite a lot. :dontknow:

EPQ was fun, I tried to get all the evaluation out of the way as fast as I could, so it's probably terrible, I just liked writing about ridiculous things! My question was "Should a seemingly Intelligent piece of Computer Software be granted Civil Rights" It's interesting but I didn't actually come to a proper conclusion...

I'm not too worried about getting the offer (as high as it is - A*A*A yay) as Maths A Levels are pretty formulaic in getting the grades, and Greek is fun enough, and I did well enough at AS so I don't need to worry too much about getting an A...

English and History exams are not the most fun :s

Watching a history of music program on BBC, love it. Wagner is the best.
Can anyone else not wait to get to Oxford?

Silly question, I guess, but life seems slow when you know what is hopefully waiting in October...

When you finish uni, PLEASE make this a reality :awesome: I will pay you!
I'm also willing to help with any pun-related humor, although that said, "why did the Islamic leader of the Third Crusade storm out of Pizza Hut? Because they had no salad in" went down like a lead balloon in my History class :s-smilie:

 Don't worry, stuff like that is appreciated here

Spoiler

Anyone else facing the very scary prospect of Oxford or nothing in the Summer? Got my Bristol rejection yesterday and am now slightly panicking; I'm an obsessive bets-hedger- I'm doing 4 A levels purely so I can afford to fail one :L

It's good to get a Plan B sorted if you don't have an insurance at all. Look at Clearing courses as soon as the list starts emerging, or plan to apply abroad, like I would have done.

I have 2 other offers, but I was lacking in confidence when I applied so they're much much lower than Oxford, and I don't want to go there :/ does the clearing list become available on results day or is it earlier?

The full clearing list only becomes available on results day. Really there are three groups of universities in clearing.

Many Scottish university courses will be known. Scottish universities start clearing weeks before. Any course that is in clearing for Scottish students is likely to be in clearing for English ones but the reverse is not true. That is because English students pay fees but Scots don't.

Many universities know that they have not filled course places regardless of A level results. These tend to be lower ranked universities. They may start advertising clearing places long before results come out.

The rest only know their vacancies in the few days between getting your results and you getting your results and that is a dynamic system. New courses get added to clearing as the interplay of firm and conditional offers works out.
